Title: Blue Fin Trolling Leaders
Post by: Crab Pot on August 24, 2022, 12:34:04 AM
What knot do you guys use for tying 150# braid to 200 pound mono and what length of mono for high speed trolling?

I've always used a swivel with 4-6 foot of leader but I see stories on BD using up to 15 foot leaders.

Just wondering what the experts do.  ;)

Not an expert but the longer leader is desirable due to its ability to stretch and for greater abrasion resistance relative to braid. Splicing leader into hollow core braid is one way people go - FG knots are good too and I've heard that the PR Bobbin knots work well.

Alan has a modified Tony Pena on here somewhere. It's what used since I have solid braid 150 on my 80's. I think it's a 17 turn Bimini (mine) on the braid to Alan's 9 up, ten down TP.

You might be able to thread the mono into the hollow core without the needles.  I've been able to sneak mono into Dacron without an issue.  Bill

not a hard and fast rule, but i typically tie 130 with a single san diego knot.  with 150, i usually crimp.
