Hey guys,
I'm hoping to have my Adjustable Mag Kits available soon!
I'm tweaking a few things to make them more easily installed and work as well as possible.
All parts will be stainless steel aside from the magnet and knob. The knob is anodized aluminum.
I don't have the price nailed down yet as I'm waiting to get a quote on one more machined piece.
As soon as I have pricing available I'll update this.
Thank you all for your interest and advice in getting this off the ground! :)

Ok, so here is the latest info for anyone not wanting to read the rest of the thread.
The kits are ready to sell at $30 + shipping or $55 installed if you send me your reel.
I'm just ramping up on this and the first small production batch is in the works.
Sal's install on his Surfmaster can be seen here: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=24662.0
Here are pics of the finished kit.

I'm also attaching a PDF of the installation instructions in case anyone want's to check it out before hand.
Always feel free to send the reel to me if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.
Did I miss more info about these mag kits somewhere else?

Hi Sid,
The info is in this thread: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=23555.0

Update:
Hey guys, thank you for all the interest!
Unfortunately, it's going to take a bit longer than I hoped. All the kids and my wife have been passing around a nasty stomach flu this week pretty much eliminating any extra time I had to put into it.
I also just talked to my machinist and he is sick as well.
Hopefully I'll have some of the new versions ready to go soon, but in the mean time, I can make the first version like what"s on my 155.
I can also install them if you'd like to send me your reel.
Chad,
Ditto what I said on the spacer bar post. Let us know when you are ready😀
Brett
Got my first article from the machinist. Doing a test fit asap and probably a couple changes before a production run. Couple other parts in the works also.

Ok guys, I'm sorry this is taking forever, but I am making progress!
Been a little preoccupied by fires, floods, and on the possotive side, our new daughter ;D
Hope to have the first kits out next week!
The Adjustable Mag Kits are now ready to sell. The price is $30 + shipping or $55 installed (send me your reel).
All parts are stainless steel or aluminum (except the magnet of course).
I'm building small quantities to start with to keep my overhead down until I can see how they will sell.
Those of you who've already messaged me about them will be first in line. I'll be PMing you to confirm.
Much thanks to Sal and his install thread here: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=24662.0

Not my cup of tea, but looks like a complete kit. Good luck to you and I can't wait to see pictures of customers reels.
Ron
Chad if you have one that's not spoken for sign me up
Thanks Sheridan
Who's ready to step up and do a Chad kit on a Cortez Squidder? Above my paygrade but bee's knees.
farmer 56 here... well i have two tail plates on the way..... one penn 180 one 155.... only qustion i have is how interchangable will they be between reels penn 100 180 155 160 ......
Chad, thanks for doing this and please put me on the list.
I'm ready. Steve

That tail plate will fit all those. You'll just have to magnet on each spool.
hey thor farmer here...... what spool would you magnet .... i have metal, aluminum , plastic .... do you feel magnets would totally counteract the weight of a metal spool... or are we chasing our tail and we should only use aluminum...farmer out
Is this version 1 or 2 ?

That's a great question for an experiment to answer.

From my own magging experiments I've found bronzed chrome spools require more magnets to slow them. Being heavier they have more inertia. 8)
Farmer,
In my opinion you will want to mag the aluminum spool. The magnet will have no affect on plastic and the heavier metal spool is easily thumbed as you would likely be tossing heavier weight with it. The main reason for magging is to increase casting distance without backlashing and typically your aluminum spool casts better because of its lighter start-up weight.
Mike
Would there be any effect from magging a graphite spool if the clicker gear is metal or would it the gear not have enough mass? Might try it on a Newell and see what happens
I agree with Mo and Mike.
I think it's really only worth using with an aluminum spool.
It won't work on the plastic or graphite, and not worth it on the metal since there needs to be a lot more magnet to have an affect.
Plus, this mod is kind a performance part like many of the other upgrades. In most cases, if you're hot rodding a reel, you'd want the aluminum spool anyway.
Chad
thats exactly what i thought ..... but had to ask ..chad i P M you the tracking # farmer out
I was thinking of a 220 Newell. Small spool and side plates and a pretty big clicker gear for its size. I have a couple side plates laying around anyway. If it doesn't work I can put an aluminum spool in it

That senario may work Sheridan. Looking forward to hearing your results!
Farmer you have your answer on aluminum.
Chad, have you done this to a Squidder plate. IMO a 145 with your mag, frame and carbontex with a 24-66 flat handle is a serious surf weapon for NC drum at long range. Typically I throw 25lb mono and there's just not much left on a 100 or 146 after the heave, and the retrieve is already slow enough without being on the arbor after a run. The Squidder ruled the roost for fifty years and will still get it done now.
I probably have an extra plate if you want to mess with it.

Yes sir! The Squidder is a better candidate, but you already know I don't follow rules😁.
I chose the Surfmaster for my project in case I wanted to use it underwater😉😁

John,
I have not done a Squidder yet. If you have an extra tail plate, I'd love to see it!
Thanks!
I've opened my mouth about my wishful thinking before confirming there is indeed a 24-145L to play with...
If anyone knows where to get one I'm in.
Sal, My hotrod 100 and 150 will get mag
PM your addy and I will get it out tomorrow.

Sorry John, I thought you needed a side plate. people Thorhammer still needs a 145 spool!
NP, brother. I see some aluminum on the bay so they are out there. I have a few 140 Squidders not on rods waiting for some love. I have a Newell kit from Randy that I can switch over from the 150.
I added a PDF attachment of the installation instructions today.
(Updated file attached)
Chad is a busy guy, so I'll help him out. The size "I" drill needed for the 5/16-24 tap is 0.272", not 0.292". He was completely right, size "I" will get you what you need, he was just off by 0.02" on the measurement. 7's can look like 9's.

Thank you Sid!
I updated the instructions. Thanks for catching that for me!
