Title: New Penn Senator 114 ... Service?
Post by: jjc1969 on April 20, 2009, 12:33:06 AM
Hey Alan -

I just picked up a new (2008 US made) Senator 114 that will be used annually for 2 week land based shark and tarpon fishing trips. Is there any service you would  recommend before use or do you think it will be good to go as is?

Incendently I also picked up a new Okuma Catalina 45 that will be used for the same purpose. When I received that reel I completely broke it down and re-greased and oiled everything. I must say I was very impressed with the internals of the reel as well as the fit and finish. It will be interesting to see how it holds up against the Penn.

Thanks - Jeff

go through and grease the drag washers.  work in some grease on all the internal surfaces with an old toothbrush.  get some grease on the screws as well.  good luck!  alan
