Title: 4/0 special
Post by: Milkman375 on April 03, 2020, 09:05:06 PM
1st... Thank you to Alan and all that make this site possible, to people like me ( a novice ) it's invaluable.
I do quite a bit of fishing out of RI, and as my son gets older he wants to learn more and more. Which also translates into going after bigger fish. We have started in earnest fishing for Stipers and are slowly building our arsenal to start yellow fin fishing and beyond. I have recently been purchasing some Senator's on eBay not realizing how many different variations there are. I have several 6/0's and a few other 4/0's, but this one I need help with. I am including some pics, what kind on Drag is this, and it appears to already have a steel gear in it. Was this standard or has this already been modified? Any help would be appreciated. Also everyone keep mentioning grease, but I don't seem to see the link to purchase it?

Hey Milkman, first of all welcome to the forum. What you have there is an after-market set of teflon disks. Get yourself a PENN DRAG WASHER KIT 6-113HSP if you want the best for that reel. Steel gears are standard for that 113H release.

Grease you can get from many different places, read up on it here. The favorites with guys here tend to be Cal's Drag Grease for drags and Yamaha Marine for the rest.

X2

Pick up a carbon drag kit and Cal's drag grease at Mystic or Smooth Drag.
