Title: 9/0 Project Gear Sets???
Post by: Darin Crofton on July 25, 2019, 03:47:08 PM
I'm putting together a Cortez Conversions Penn 9/0 and have two gears sets I bought off of fleabay in the past.
I don't know what reels they came out of exactly, but will share a pic of them now. They each have a different
looking pinion and I want to know which one I should use? The pinion on the right is slightly bigger diameter.
I'm guessing the one on the left? Thank you! Darin

I really know nuttin' ! But my guess would be the pinion with the reinforcement band would be , by far, the strongest.

You want to use the right hand side one.

I think the left side is for 6/0

The pinion on the left is for a 114H, the one on the right is for a 114 6/0 & a 115. The 114H & the 115 can use the same main gear. The 114 6/0 uses a smaller diameter main gear. Now it's all as clear as mud.  ;D ;D      Rudy

Rudy and Alan are spot on.
I'm a big fan of steel gears once you step up to the 9/0 and above.
