Hello all. I'm new to the page. Thank you for allowing me to join. Hoping this is s drama free. Tried having a reel page on Facebook. But that's not a place to avoid drama. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Doug. I live on Long Island NY. I've been collecting reels for a few years now. Mainly old surf reels. Was focused mainly on penn. 710,704 and 706. Customized a ton of them. Often sorry I drilled so many of these classics. My collection moved on to Mitchell, Luxor, Langley, orvis. And so on. I have over 300 reels. I have a bunch my late dad and brother used. They are my favorite to fish. I love finding crusty reels that haven't been cared for in decades, and bringing them new life. If these old reels could talk, they would have tremendous stories to tell. I have a huge respect for fisherman of the past. Can't get into this new school reports chasing crowd that require high end gear only. There is nothing like strapping a 50yr old reel to an old custom honey lamiglas or Garcia conolon. I look forward to speaking with members. And maybe sharing what I've learned.
Welcome !! Sounds like you will fit right in !
Welcome aboard!
No worries — There is no drama here — just a family atmosphere of helping each other.
The site gets over 3 million looks a month! — with no advertising, profanity, religion, or politics...
Alan's 12 year old rule — if a Post cannot be viewed by your 12 Year old daughter — it will not be allowed.
Looking forward to your posts — sounds like you are in the right place.
Best,
Fred

we have something called the 12 year old rule. you are not allowed to post anything that would be inappropriate for my 12 year old daughter to read. well, nevermind that she is now 22, but the point remains. behave as you would if you were invited to sit at the dinner table with a man, his wife and his family. i think we will all get along just fine. welcome!!!!
Welcome! It's especially nice to have another spinning reel fanatic on board! :)
Welcome aboard Doug. I'm on the other end of the island in Howard Beach. I worked almost 10 yrs. on the boats in Freeport L.I.

Thank you for the warm welcome EVERYONE!!!! I have to learn to navigate the site. I have plenty of pics to share. I'm always working on something. Was up working on a first release 704 greenie last night. A little customizing to make it better suited for surfcasting. Going to wash it next and clear coat to preserve its patina from years of service. And yes, I have young daughters. I will not be posting stuff I wouldn't allow them to see!! Looking to get at least one of them into reels.
Welcome Doug, you really have plenty of reels to keep you going, cheers from sunny Western Australia, Don.
Wecome aboard Doug!
Keep posting pics of your upgrades Doug, we really enjoy those here.

Welcome from Georgia Doug, I'm new here myself but I think you will find everyone is pretty great.
I love upgrading them. I have lots of ideas in my head. Hoping to get them made. Maybe someone here can collaborate with me and develop ideas. Nothing better than making a classic reel better. Like fixing up a classic car.
