What Todd and John said. Reassemble without the felt washer, Grab the gear sleeve(98-60) and pull it in and out. Too much movement means it needs a shim washer underneath the gear sleeve. Should have a tiny bit of wiggle for heat expansion, though.

One of the things about all the old reels we work with is sometimes finding the "puzzle" left by a previous person  :D   I'm thinking Todd is on the right track; somebody put it there thinking to take up slop in the gear sleeve/bridge.  Toss it. - john

Quote from: Hardy Boy on November 09, 2024, 03:07:02 PMIf it was in that location under the sleeve it's in the wrong spot. It sits on top of the teeth under the gear. Maybe someone used it for a spacer to stop sleeve "wiggle".... use metal shims for that.

Todd

It was in this location. There is a hard fiber washer that is on top of the teeth and under the gear. This one isn't big enough to go there. The I.D. of the hole is too small.

Thanks,

Steve
