I have searched high and low but could not find. Is there a list of parts that can be interchanged between the different Newell and Penn models?
Other than frame bars and reel seats, the only other part would be the main and pinion gears from the 200/300/400 series would fit Penn 505/506.
Are you saying that all of the parts for the 200/300/400 series would fit Penn 505/506, besides the ones you listed or the frame, bars and reel seats, main and pinion gears are the only parts that would fit those models?
I only said that the main and pinion gears will fit.
Thanks Bryan!!!

Bryan, is this also true vice versa? I have a Newell S229-5 that's a bit too fast for bottom fishing. Newell 3:1 gears are impossible to find so a 4:1 gear/pinion set from a Penn 505/506 will fit? Since the 505/506 are t made anymore, will the pinion/gear from the 500L fit?
Thanks and sorry for the basic questions. I did a search but found conflicting info (some say I have to dremel the yoke or pinion part a little or "do at your own risk").
Well, I just just did a test fit of Penn's 4:1 pinion gear on a Newell 235 spool and as you can see, it fits. The Penn 4:1 gear set should work on the Newell 200/ 300/ 400 series reels.
Another option for our Newell Reels. Hooray!
Does anybody know which Peen reel base fits on a Newell 229?

I have a Newell Blackie 338 with 5:1 gears, what drags are these compatible with in the Penn line...500 or 505/506?
I am looking at upgrading to Bryan's 5+1 thin CF drag stack, but confused on which drags will fit.
Thanks guys.

The 500 and 505 use the same 6-309 drag washers,

With my kit, all I need to know that you have a 338 Blackie and I know which kit you need.
Thanks Bryan.
I will message you when I decide to do the 5+1 drag upgrade.
Newell 447/540 bars, base, and clamp... will these fit a Penn 500 or some other Penn model? Thank you!
The bars might be able to bolt on but I don't think the holes on a 400 series base match up with a jigmaster plate. What spool were you planning to use? 338 bars/base will bolt right onto a 500 jigmaster though, same width as stock.
Aloha,
Kyle
I believe the 400/500 series base is the same size as penn 4/0, not sure of the fit though.
I think the 540 bars have the same hole pattern as the squidder series, if my old memory severs me correctly you could replace the bars on a 533 with bars with squidder bars, they where a direct bolt on.
Thank you, gents.
Are the bearing caps on a 220 and a 322 the same?
Yes, the bearing caps on all of them are the same as long as it's a model with one on each side. The ones with only a cap on the clicker side are different
Are Newell and Penn handles compatible?
Sort of, it takes some filing to get a penn handle on a newell. A newell handle doesn't fit on a penn unless you tap a hole for the keeper screw. I have one newell with a shimano trinidad handle on it, took some filing though but it's nice having the offset handle.
Thanks Swami.
Btw, do you know if stock Jigmaster 500 gears will fit a Newell 332 without modification?

So... nobody can answer this?
I have no idea.
Dwight
I think that is what Bryan showed earlier. The Newell 2/3/400 reel 5:1 gears will fit a Jigmaster and Penn 4:1 gears fit a Newell. Also, I don't think the 30-99 fits any Newells. The frame that fits is the 30-66, same width but two holes. If I am wrong then tell me to shut up.

Penn 4:1 gears are Jigmaster 500 gears, right? 505/506 are 5:1. You can put those Jigmaster 500 4:1 gears in a Newell 200/300/400?
I think there's something with the pinion gear that has to be addressed to get those gears to work. The ring maybe?
