Title: Okuma Clearwater 203D Issue
Post by: steelhead_killer on September 20, 2017, 01:22:52 AM
Good evening!  Got four of these in today that all have the same problem.  The plastic gear that turns the level wind gear is shredded.  The fix is straight forward but I would like to tell the guy how to avoid it in the future.  He fishes the Columbia and drops a canon ball sinker down with bait or lure.  I thought I read that if the level wind gets out of sync with the line on the spool that the pressure strips the gear?  Thanks in advance for any feedback.  By the way these reels seem to be built pretty well.  Lots of stainless steel, big gear and drags not what I was expecting for $100 reel with a line counter.

Does the reel have a synchronous level wind?  If not, probably the wrong reel to use for this application.
