Remove the drive shaft assembly. Notice that there's no anti-reverse pawl! I couldn't find the schematics for this exact model, but the other similar okuma reels do have this, so I can only assume it's an assembly error for this unit. But please do correct me if I'm wrong here. The spring we found doesn't look like a dog spring either, deformed or not.

There were some unresolved issues with the anti-reverse on this unit. But since we have the anti-reverse bearing it will still work.
This reel is pretty similar to the CV 30L (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=774.0) tutorial Alan already made, and I'm sure I didn't get all the english terminology correcy, but hopefully it might be helpful to someone anyway :)

The spring may be out of the auto-trip mechanism between the AR wheel and the holding plate.
I have a couple of Okuma MagSystem MS-30CS reels. I'm not sure what the difference is compared to the Magnetix shown, but these models have a 6.2:1 gear ratio.
These reels cast well and the mags really work, providing a lot of braking near full and progressively less down the scale. One problem though is their habit of throwing theselves into gear when casting. The problem is that the handle moves with the momentum of the cast and trips the reel into gear. The solution is to cut the longer arm of the clutch cam so that the two arms are equal in length.
I could not find a schematic for this reel, but an easier solution might be to disable the auto trip function by removing the small spring loaded disc with the tab and it's coil spring (no part # on the CV 30L schematic), located between the AR wheel and the holding plate. The small tab engages the end of the long arm of the cluch cam and puts the reel in gear when the handle is turned.

Probably about the same effort. You will need a hacksaw to cut the cam and a file or similar to smooth the cut edge. However this method doesn't involve much dismantling of the reel.
PS: this is what the Okuma Australia service technician told me to do.
Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I'm gonna work on a friends Okuma Contoura 303cs, which is not unlike this reel, and this is going to be very handy. I've noticed the gear plate is a lot like the Convector so it will be familiar.
Update:
I finished the Contoura and either my friend had taken it apart already and put it back together wrong or, Okuma had a bad reel slip through quality control. Unlike the reel mentioned above it has an anti-reverse pawl, just no spring, and the drag washers and metal washers were in all backwards. Kind of a mess in there.

Anyone ever figure out the "deformed spring"? Looks like the spring out of a Shimano Baitrunner.
Old thread I know ::) The deformed spring is for the auto trip mechanism just leave it out and follow the recomendation posted earlier. I have the Okuma MS 30-CS it is similar but built like a tank. Fitted a power handle and every cast the auto trip clicked in - snap off. The solution was to follow the earler post and make it manual trip only. And there should be an antireverse dog and spring see the attached schematic (for the Mag Sysytem CS30 but basically the same) parts 201, 211 and 216 are the required bits.
