Fishing Rods / Re: Help identifying rod brand
Last post by ExcessiveAngler - March 27, 2024, 05:07:51 AM
Saw something similar to this a While ago.
I would try looking up blank number as Seeker or American tackle, think it was?
Might've been made by a company called local hooker rods?

I hope this isn't really common knowledge, but I couldn't find anything about this online. I bought a new plastic 6 pin brake block assembly to replace the old 2 pin metal one on my old 5500C. It is a drop in fit, no mods needed. I used part #1116727 - 20B from Dadsoletackle. Some might argue that 2 blocks is enough. Maybe it is, but trying to screw around with the different color blocks on the water with teeny tiny little blocks was a nightmare. There's a reason I bought this, I've lost all of my brake blocks along the way. This new setup the blocks are captive, you can't loose them. You push them in until they click to disengage them. I don't adjust my brakes often, but is sure is nice to be able. There are also magnetic brake options for these, but they are not tool-less adjustable from what I've seen. After fishing with my 6 pin 5501C3, I'm leaning towards the centrifugal being a better system than magnetic, at least for me throwing relatively large and heavy lures. Hopefully this helps someone.

I'll check it out, Bryan. Thanks! Not looking forward to fiddling with the line keeper spring again, though... :ct

I would check the order of the metal drag washers. The very last drag washer in the drag stack should not rotate with the spool. If it does, the drag washers are out of order.

Thorhammer is spot on with Ambassadeur to levelmatic comparison. My 930 was a bit slow due to gearing and spool shape, but a nicely made baitcaster. Fine for bass or catfishing or steelhead/salmon drift fishing, but too slow for my warm water ocean lure fishing.

Zebco / 75th Anniversary Zebco 33
Last post by Brewcrafter - March 27, 2024, 03:21:06 AM
Okay, admittedly I'm guessing (purely a guess) that probably not many of us on the forum are snatching up Zebco 33's or cornering the market with a garage full of maintenance parts.  I would also guess (and only a guess) that probably a lot of us had and used one at some time in our formative days.  I still have my very first 1960's Zebco 66 combo (caught my first fish on it, daughter caught hers, son caught his, and it is safely tucked away in the hopes that I'm around long enough for another generation).  Anyhow, saw where they are getting ready to release their "75th Anniversary" model.  Wondering if they just ran off a bunch of stickers to slap onto existing inventory, or will they be taking a page from Penn's book with a wooden presentation box, serial numbered reel, limited edition with certificates of authenticity (I am somewhat tongue in cheek here)?  Anyhow, even if it's a discount sticker special I might have to get one just to toss on the shelf; the Zebco 33 is an enduring classic.  I believe our Boss has a commemorative 70th Anniversary Model, and also was good enough to record a cool tour of the Zebco factory which (I hope) this link will take folks to:

:(  OK ..   Before I get you doing a lot of hand filing . I have to ask why the insert ?    It is smaller drag washers "surface wise "with carbon fiber ears that can shear under heavy drag .
I think the stock set up is better .

If I was to make these washers . I would trace on paper the inside of the insert .  You need two washers that will fit the gear sleeve and have the outside diameter . Paste the paper template to the washer and file the profile .  Once done you can sandwich the carbon fiber in between the washers and file the carbon for the notches.
