I have no experience with these reels. I need help determining the age and value, please.
Being offered locally for $30.
I am a little worried if it is corroded under the braid and if it is, how much it will cost to fix or replace the spool.
Thank You.
-Steve
Crank handle is worth $30!.
It looks pretty clean from here.
Best, Fred
I was just posting that the handle is worth,at least 30. I second what Fred says.
Todd
Posts and rings look good. Just the handle would be enough to make me consider it. I got a good used spool for you if it's bad.
:) I hope you are teasing us . A little vinegar on a paper towel and rewind it .

Not teasing you old man. I've gotten burned twice before when purchasing Penn SS spinners that had braid with hidden corrosion underneath. Those were gold anodized and couldn't be fixed. I've never tried using vinegar on any fishing reel. You may have just taught me something. Thank you if it works and you're your not just picking on me again. I'm going to buy it and give it a try. If it doesn't work, I may stop in Valrico and drop it off for repair :d
;D That there spool is not aluminium !! Worst case is some chrome may come off and have a brass streak in it . IT looks like it will clean up well , does not have that deep down flake look .

Now you are speaking my language.
Hi Sandbar, there is plenty on this forum about, restoring Senator reels, once you have restored one, it soon becomes second nature to do them all, just do some reading here you will be okay to do it yourself, have a go, I `ve got my money on you man, with the vinegar water mixed 50/50, I only soak it for 2 hour, then use a stiff brush to clean it up, then you can tell if it need more time in the solution, good luck cheers Don.

Thank you Jason.
What They said, handle 30 all day. White vinegar soak is THE ticket on green crud.
John
Just make sure you de-grease the spool first with Dawn dish soap, etc then soak in vinegar if you find the green crud under the line. Bill
What others have said.
BTW, do you still have those Penn SS reels with the corroded spools? What models? I may have replacement spools for you.
Bryan
take that reel, get a yellowtail special frame (Newell) on ebay and a stainless penn 66 spool. You will have a beast reel. just put in a 5 stack squidder drag.
Total power

Bryan
Hey Bryan,
Two were 430SS and one of those was my reel, my fault. I have 2 or 3 of the spools on hand.
I think the other was a Z Series Penn.
I will have to find it and see if I ever bought a replacement spool.
I will let you know. Thank you very much!

At what cost?
I picked up the reel today.
It looks much better than I thought. Stripped the line. I also purchased the pole and some extra handles for another $20.
How did I do?
Keep a sharp lookout for flashing red lights in your rear-view mirror...
Good purchases.
Best, Fred

You are a hoot OMJ.
Whaddaya think?
Thing looks pretty darn good to me!
And it has the red plates, which I like lol.
Also has an aluminum spool as well.
I know over my way, a 500 like that is going for around 40-50 bucks all day long on FB.
Curious to hear what others have to say?
offer 25 and see, but that's in good shape. I'd go 35-40 if I needed a good one to fish, and there isn't another reel on the market new for 40 bucks that will outdo that one. Entirely possible it also has steel main gear. You came in so low on the other stuff 35 still nets you way to the good side, IMO. That little red handle in that shape is getting harder to come by.
How about the value on this one?
I realize this the spot for Senators but just to wrap this up.
I ended up with 3 reels and 2 spools for $70.
I tried to get him to sell an Ambassadeur 6501C3 but he wasn't ready to part with it yet.
I would lay low for a couple days, I heard the police are looking for theft suspect. You stole those reels at basically $23 a piece. All look to be in great shape. Just add some carbon fiber drags and new handles and you are fishing. Bill

Do I really need to replace the handles?
;D You don`t have to change a thing , It`s over kill for pond fishing . :fish
Great deals Sandbar, looks like he takes care of his stuff.

Definitely
He has a 2004 F150 that looks brand new. Good guy.
Originally from Malibu.
Living alone in Florida.
I plan to keep in touch with him. He is like so many people in this world. Getting older and being ignored.

Do you need to, maybe. But a larger knob and longer arm sure helps. Bilp

The spool you can get for 15 bucks and the yellowtail frame and bar maybe 50 bucks. You can't find a slow high torque reel like this anymore.

I found the reel today Bryan.
It's a 712Z. It's still in "deconstructed" condition. I put the tray aside when I ran into some corrosion. Just boxed up the parts today to clear my work area.
I have too many unfinished reels that need parts or extra special attention that I didn't have time for.
