Title: New member - first question -- reel foot / reel stand
Post by: Catching Nemo on April 19, 2018, 10:44:37 PM
Hi everybody,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

This is a great site, and it has helped me immensely in my new hobby to acquire old Penn reels and to clean them up for my personal collection.  Thanks all for your helpful posts.

I've got a first question regarding a Penn 160 Beachmaster that I got off eBay.  See the attached pic

The previous owner/user cut a rounded slot at the front foot of the reel seat.  Does anyone have any knowledge or best guess as to the purpose of this slot?

Thanks

Thanks for the great question.  And welcome!🙏.  The notch may have been for a screw, as the front of the reel seat may have been missing or had issues?  🤷‍♂️   Unusual but for a purpose.   For a small reel tape maybe would have worked?    Welcome and enjoy your stay 🤦‍♀️

Someone did that to fit a vintage rod with the pistol grip and screw.
Look like they did a good job. ;)
Welcome Nemo.

Welcome !  I agree with Shark Hunter, and I have a couple that "someone" did the same thing to ! Must have been a pretty common "quick fix" !
