Title: Shots from the Shop
Post by: Keith K on February 17, 2011, 01:57:19 AM
The first pic is from a couple of years ago in the garage, and the second is from yesterday (I've since moved into the office to be near the computer).  It would be cool to see how you all wage war.  Post up your action shots!

Keith,

Is that special carpet that doesn't dissolve small parts like dog springs? ;)   I wish the reel companies would quit using carpet-soluble parts! ;D

Dog springs vanish into thin air.  The carpet eats those little washers near the spool bearings.   ;D

HOW DO I WAGE WAR? .....see accoutrements on the wall. All but the middle one crafted by yours truly.

When I was testing the bamboo ocean rod for durability and to gauge its class I took several shots from this side of the room showing my bench and clutter. Then I posted a clear shot from the other side of the room. People don't sneak up and scare me......more than once, anyway. Enjoy.

Keith:  I looked at your work bench.  I am jealous.  Sitting there is an open pack of Marlboros and a back up pack :'(.  I quit smoking and when I work on reels at my work bench, I reach for my non-existing cigarettes :'(.  I am writing this because, I am going through a crisis right now.  I want a cigarette.  If I had some smokes around I would gladly light up.  To get a smoke now would require that I get in my car and drive to the nearest gas station for a pack, but writing this is helping the urge pass.  I am deciding whether to buy some cigarettes for my trip to Mexico in May.  I used to smoke on vacation and give it up when I got home.  About 3 years ago I didn't give them up when I got home.  That's the danger of vacation smoking.  Dominick

Steve-O --That mistake can only be made once!  Fine weapons.

Dominick --Check out the second pic...no smokes.  I haven't had one since July '09.  I am not super human.  I would love one )especially right now to go with my Jack over ice).  I just know that I can't.  Good luck, bro.

Hang in there Dominick. I hear everytime you light one, you loose an hour of your life. We need you around for many more years to set us straight every now and then.....you old goat. I used to smoke 3 packs a day when I was a foreman for a construction company. In 1990, I quit the job and smooking  at the same time, I never went back. I only miss one to tap the tip of the line when tying a hook. Keep seeping that zin and you'll be ok. Good luck to you, Sal

YeahFlip: I know what you mean.  I made the mistake of going to Hi's Tackle yesterday.  It was guilt free, but now I have to let my wife buy another pair of shoes.  Dominick

i'm feeling guilt free as well!

been sick as a dog the last few days, had a nice nap this afternoon, thanks in part from a shot of bourbon (thanks, keith!) and woke up to a little sunshine left in the afternoon. i've been needing to get the road grime off the excursion so i got out the hose, the soaper and a couple of brushes.  when i asked my wife to help, she said "it's too cold out here ....".  well, i'm finally back inside, just finished hacking up another couple of lungfuls of mucous, and i'm thinking that another shot of bourbon sounds reel good right about now!  >:(

Hey Dominick,

I'm 35 years old next week, and the only thing I haven't been able to shake from my life is cigarettes.  I had the will power to lose 60 lbs. (from 246 to 190), but I can't shake these things.  Pretty soon I gotta try to quit these stinky, health destroying, ugly, disgusting cancer sticks.  Stay Away Pal... like Sal said, "we need you around ya old goat!"

It's been tough. :'(  I got some free time on my calendar, so I thought I would run down to Cabo for a few days of fishing.  The thought I had was hmmm cigarettes are only $3.50 a pack in Baja.  I can smoke a couple of packs and not bring any back.  Well something came up can't go until Thursday if at all this month.  Just thinking about sitting in a boat, line in the water and cigarette hanging out of my mouth.  I'm dying here :D.  That's funny, die with them and die without them. ::) Dominick

Re: Shots from the Shop!!!!!

Well Im sort of new to the site and just saw this.. So here goes..
I have one dedicated bedroom as my Man Cave - Computer stuff, Fishing gear and work station.
I live in the High desert (Hesperia) and found its to hot in summer and to cold in winter to work in the garage, so 5 years ago I moved the work bench/station into the house.
So far its has worked very well.  Cant use stinkyl/flammable cleaners etc so have to use other methods.
Dont have a Parole officer or Warden so can pretty much do as I please!!  LMAO

In the Cabinet - My personal Reels & gear.  Also have half the closet filled with stuff!!!

Cabinet open..

The extra table I bring in for larger Quantity of work (when needed)..

Cabinet to left of Computer.  Those boxes on floor have a Quanyum Aruba 20pts from Mn, waiting for parts, and the box all 17 of the current reels came in.

Work Bench & computer area.

Misc tools etc.

Shaft Pin pliers I made, tried to weld pin punch on another pair, FAIL ! ruined temper of pliers..
I really need a pair of Pin Pliers that work well.  Saw some in Japan Yohoo, but ???

Set of pics I recently found at Harbor freight, ones in my hand pull Bearings very well!!!
You can never have to many picks!!!

Close up of bench.  The towel is a Motel Bath mat. Very tight weave and folded works perfect for me.

Long shot of bench....

Currently working on 6 new Trynos Reels with worthless drag material (see post).  Here is some Carbontex washers and Sheet that Dawn provided me with in an attempt to cut & fabricate New Carbontex drags for these 6 reels!!! ???  Stay tuned for that!!

So, thats my Low budget shop in a nut shell..
Have plans to save a few $$ and get the Bearing packing set up from Alan ASAP.
Retired, broke, low budget..  But its a labor of love...

I am currently on a quest to find Pliers to remove the Shaft Pins, that are such a PITA!!
I have already had to Buy 1 customer a $85 Pluton Spool assembly!!!  Wont do that again!!!

Sorry the pics came out in reverse order....  :-)

Oh BTW about 6 or 8 of those Reels in the Cabinet are going to a Garage sale 4-2 to raise a few $$ for a worthy causes & youth Fishing programs.
Like that Giant Daiwa Opus spinning reel, some Penns & couple low end Shimano reels (Spinning and Round)..
I pick them up during the year when the price is right and rebuild them to Donate to Kids programs and Youth fishing outings etc and do sell some to Donate the Cash....

;D

N-H,
Very nice cave. I'm jealous! ;D  Nice to hear someone else has summers that are too hot (I'm in Redding) and when winter rolls around I bundle up in the garage. Nice to hear about the donations for the kids' fishing programs. I've done a few overhauls for "Wounded Warriors" and need to donate some more. Nice collection, too. Keep up the good work! 8)
Welcome aboard!
Rob

Actually I meant to thank you,
I must have reserved the room after you.
I stepped out of the shower, slipped and fell.
Tore my rotator.
And collected 1M settlement.

It hurts to reel, but I can do it with a smile on my face  ;D
