Title: Angler on a Wintry Lake - Ma Yuan, 1195 A.D.
Post by: sdlehr on July 05, 2017, 02:29:51 AM
I wasn't sure where to put this.... but it is about what may be the world's oldest fishing reel - in this painting by Ma Yuan during China's Song Dynasty - in 1195 AD, to be exact. I thought this was pretty cool.  There's more info about this here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishing_reel#Origins_in_China) and here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma_Yuan_(painter))

Looks like a Senator 4/0 with root beer side plates -- probably a one off.

Neat pic, Sid --

Best,

Fred

Quite a bit older than anything in my collection.  You think that China has garage sales?

Is that a circle or J hook?  Is it kirbed?

That looks like an acid wrapped rod.
