Title: Custom Stainless Steel Spacers Bars
Post by: Alto Mare on September 27, 2014, 11:38:05 AM
Well, I'm starting to get emails, so here it is:
As most of us know, the spacer bars for the 501-506 are not available anymore... well, I'm sure these will flush out a whole heap of the original on eBay, not that I'm interested, I rather have the stainless steel spacers.
These should also work on the 49-149 and 349.
They were my suggestion and I believe Black Pearl will make them available to all of us soon, we're just working out some small details and hopefully they will happen.
They do look amazing.
For cost and availability, you will need to check with Black Pearl.
Here are a couple of pictures

Look great, and a good option for narrowing a 500 I guess? That is, if there's a stand available. I don't know much about this particular modification.

Sal, if/when Black Pearl decides to fashion these, will they be compatible with a Penn 49L?   :)

Yes Aiala, they will, but you might need to purchase two sets. Since there are so many 149-49 and 349, we'll see if we could get him to offer sets of three for those.
Keep in mind, I have the samples, but I'm not 100% sure these will be available. We will need to find out from Alan Chui if they will.

I'm in for 3 sets!
If I can't find a Tib Frame for my 349H, these SS Spacers will make the reel more rigid!
Can't Wait.

Currently, I am in the progress to negotiation with the factory because the initial pricing was for the flat bar. Now, we have to change to have some curve in the front and some big curve in the back of the bar. I will try to keep the cost down as much as I can.

As you all can see that it is a very thick stainless steel bar and it will be cut by a CNC machine.

If the price is right for the 501/506 bar, I don't see why I will not make the 500/505 bar. It will be cost a little more because it has more stainless steel material, and it will have 3 round holes on it.

Anyway, this will be a limited production, and it will be first come first serve. I don't know when it will be, but we are waiting for the new style short bard to be made and send for checking.

Stay tune!

Thanks,
--Alan C.

I have a 500 with a bent spool. I haven't decided what to do with it. Since I have a narrow 112H, I'm thinking regular width, although I had an idea about a 99 sized conversion until I looked at what it would cost. :-\

I'll be watching to see where this goes!

Hi Alan C, I hope the first run isn't too limited - it looks like there are a few of us interested in multiple sets  :)

I hear you, but everything is coming down in price. By doing all these stuffs (spacer bars(2), reel stand (foot) and the clamp) in stainless steel, it will be very costly. If a person really wants those stuffs, he can just purchase the Tri frame (stand is included, and no spacer bars will be required). I believe that the clamp will be expensive by making it in stainless steel.

It took me a while to find out what you were talking about.  I was thinking of the spacer on the gear sleeve and was thinking...did Sal have too much wine?  You cannot even see the spacer with that pretty handle on.  This is my third time looking at this post, then realize that maybe I've had way too much non-alcoholic wine.  Nice work.  What is the weight of those spacer?

The modified spacer bar (cross bar) should be 0.23 oz each.

The spacers would look nice on a Newell 338 or if you do spacers for the Penn 501 they would fit the Newell 322.

Either way -- I want some spacers

29L-500.
If you wanted to make the 500 a narrow 501, you will need to find a 29L-501 spool...those are not easy to find.
If you do, it will cost you. If you decide to go with the narrow, you will also need the 30-49 stand, grab those, I have a feeling they will go up in price, right not they're very reasonable from Scotts.

just curious but can the bars be made without the holes in them. I like the look of the solid spacer bars. I mean I know they can be just didn't know if maybe it might be a patent issue or something.

Ok I understand the purpose behind the holes in the bars, and yes they do look great, but my personal preference is a solid bar. Like Sal said these are the only stainless steel bars made. I do own multiple sets of the 501 bars, but eventually if I don't go with Tiburon frames I would like to upgrade to the  stainless steel bars if I can get them with out the holes. I would think they would be a little cheaper to produce since there would be less machining. Are the stock bars made of steel? They seem heavier than brass. Guess I need to see if they are magnetic.
Title: Re: Custom Stainless Steel Spacers Bars
Post by: Shark Hunter on January 26, 2015, 04:34:32 AM
Dustin,
Don't underestimate the strength of those bars. Even though they have holes drilled in them, they are stronger than any stock no hole bar out there. Thick solid stainless verses thin straight steel is no match.

Txangler81,

I think they are cut from stainless.  That means they will not be magnetic, or if so, just barely.
