Title: Line Roller Bearing Types?
Post by: nelz on November 07, 2020, 03:31:30 AM
I found a great flea market deal on a big Quantum Cabo 60 spinner, but it's in pretty rough shape. It looks like it was dunked and never cleaned out, so all the bearings need replacement.

Believe it or not, I've never had to replace a line roller ball bearing, perhaps because I always keep them well lubed. So my question is, what type of bearing works best for this application? SS, ceramic? Abec #?, seal type?

if corrosion's not an issue for your fishing/maintenance habits,
get a good ABEC-5 and be done w/ it
watch out for budget "steel" without "stainless" -- chromed crap

Is rubber seals a good idea? Wondering if they may have too much resistance.

Btw, in an attempt to clean it out, I removed the seals from one of these tiny bearings (5x8x2.5)... NEVER AGAIN!!!!  :o
The microscopic balls started falling out and only by divine intervention was I able to re-assemble that thing!
It also took some serious magnification, three hands, and fingers with the talent of a top surgeon!
