Title: Ice Fishing Magic Valley Res.
Post by: steelhead_killer on January 01, 2019, 12:43:02 AM
It has been on the list for too long not to take my uncle's offer to join him ice fishing for Perch and Trout.  Reel is a Daiwa 1000c and a Penn 430 loaded up on two old trout poles.  I have no proper ice fishing poles...(yet).  Supposed to be clear and cold.  We have maggots, meal worms, fly larva etc... nothing that I have ever used before.  Should be interesting!  If I don't come back I fell through the ice in the middle of Idaho hooked to a monster rainbow!  heh heh heh

Magic Valley Res is located between Shoshone and Sun Valley.  It is fed by the Big Wood River coming out of Sun Valley basin.  I have family that goes back several generations that live in the Castleford area near Buhl.  Hagerman is an awesome duck hunting area.  I have never seen so many ducks and geese as are in that area near the warm springs.  Interesting area for sure.

White tube jig is a mainstay for lakers. A good flasher to see what depth the fish are holding and you're ready to go.

The warmwater pond closest to my house in Hagerman was a great float-tube/flyfishing spot for Bass n' Bluegill. Familiar with the Owen family from Castelford? I worked with Hoover, while living in Buhl.
Silver Creek was a great training place for flyfishing techniques.

My grandmothers family had the Miracle name.  My father used to spend the summer in Castleford on one of the families ranches.  Don't know if any of them are still around.  There is a Miracle Hot Springs but I don't know the history of the place.

Here's my setup. A popup tent for the real cold days, a
Smity sled I made to haul it and my gear. Add a buddy heater and you're good and toasty. Got rid of my gas auger and switched to a drill set up.
