Title: Shimano Stradic Set Screw
Post by: tarpon one on June 21, 2020, 01:55:37 AM
I've got a number of newer Shimano Stradic's that I'm cleaning and lubricating. My problem is there is a little, and I mean super small set screw(RD6008) that is threaded into the Main Shaft Assembly. Does anybody know what size Allen wrench fits this set screw and where I can purchase an Allen wrench this small. I heard it might be .9 mm but I'm very uncertain of that size.
Thanks

for tiny hex/star drivers/bits -- electronics/computer tool kit...

if you only want 1 size / 1 task -- repair/service shop, to check size

I believe it is something like .89mm  ;D
.9mm is near enough!
cheers

Steve thank you! I thought I had heard .9mm.
Any idea where to get one. Local hardware stores are impossible on this size.

Camera supply companies, optic supply companies, hobby shops, RC shops.

I occasionally do a little knife making -- some of the folders use either tiny hex key inset screws -- Or tiny star torx screws.

I picked up a set of the tiny Torx drivers from the local Ace Hardware.

You might could get a small cheapo and file it down. Littlest I got is 1.5 mm.

Believe it or not I have been using the point of a brad but considering your filing suggestion. Also going to call Shimano tomorrow.
Maybe they can sell me a couple.

I forgot to mention,
heat it up with a soldering iron or apply a drop of acetone or something before you go full retard on it; I have stripped out one or two that were corroded or locked in.
cheers
