Title: Okiaya rods
Post by: ronluvs2fish on September 16, 2018, 03:24:53 AM
Give me the good and the bad. Are these rods worth the money. They have some on eBay for around $70 for a 80-130 class rod. I will be putting a senator 12/0 reel on it. I understand you get what you pay for, but being on a tight budget and not get killed by the wife is main concern.

Thanks for any input.

Don't waste your money. If you need a budget rod for a 12/0. Get a Davis with conventional guides.
My wife bought me an Okiaya a few years back. The Gimbal was crooked and a few of the roller guides didn't even turn.
I also witnessed a break off from a roller locking up on one. Not sure if this was from lack of maintenance, but the rod was pretty new.
They claim their quality has improved, but that was enough for me.
This is just my opinion. You have to make the choice.

Besides all that, getting murdered by an insanely mad woman over fishing tackle is kind of a right of passage here... Jeff
