i know i'm leaving a bunch of guys in the lurch, but i've been working like hell to get things done. i have a trip to vancouver tomorrow with ben, fishing port hardy. looking forward to meeting todd! then towards the middle of august, it's off to southern washington for a few days of albacore. the reels are going to have wait till i get back ..... :-[
Can't forget this. It's from alan and sal!
Bring sunscreen it's been quite hot & sunny in southern BC.
ok, last reel tonight! i've gotta get this reel packaged up to ship and them finish packing myself. i'm headed to vancouver tomorrow. the reel is headed to east timor via portugal! i found a perfect steel main gear inside. i added a stainless steel gear sleeve, a stainless steel dog, my 5/0 grip and stainless steel arm, and 400 yards of 60# big game. i guess this makes it kind of a unique reel. except for the plain steel main gear, the entire drivetrain is stainless steel.
See you soon !
Cheers:
Todd
Mount Ranier!
Welcome to Vancouver!
Lunch at the Flying Beaver!
Taking the guppy to Port Hardy!
Gotta love that upside down "aloha" hoodie!
That beautiful 114H reel Alan worked on as the last reel before going out to Vancouver, is for me. I cannot thank Alan enough for his effort and grace to ensure that my reel would be ready for shipping before he finished packing his stuff.
Alan deserves this public recognition and I wish him a great fishing trip.
I'll post pictures of that reel in action, after it travels half way around the globe to fish the waters of Timor-Leste (East Timor).

Taking the guppy to Port Hardy!
That's no guppy .
Nice bird , first class .
You did not wave when you went buy but the smoke is bad.
What port and what boat are you albacore fishing mid August?
Iwalco. I forget the name of the boat.

Joao, it was pretty rushed getting everything done, but it's all good now. The reel actually came together on the first try. So many times it can take a dozen attempts to get these right. The good thing is that you had a perfect plain steel main gear. Now you have an all steel drive train. This should be a very tough reel.
made it there now go catch some fish.

At least there isn't a ordinance making you grow a beard to keep from scaring dogs and small children.

Four chinook, 61 pounds total. Finished up with a great dinner at todd's!
Congratulations on a great trip Alan, a good warm up for the albacore!
That averages out to 15 lbs a fish. How did Ben do? Dominick
That was yesterday for both of up. We both only took 1 halibut each, by choice. We kept 3 lings each, but ben actually landed all 6. He hooked 5 and I hooked 1, but my only fish was wrapped up with his and he landed both. He also landed 6 of our 8 salmon. Good thing we're sharing.
Nice job! enjoy the catch............................Joe
Sure sounds like a great trip. Some day I hope to & be able & meet some of you all while catching fish I only read about... Jeff
It was nice to meet the Boss and Ben. Alan emptied the red rider of BB's off of my deck into the pond ........... a fun time was had by all. Ben helped with some cuban cigars and got to try his first ever taste of blacktail deer back straps with a nice whiskey mushroom sauce ................ he even had seconds !!
Fun time!
Cheers:

I picked up Alan and Ben from the airport last night. They had a lot of nice things to say about Todd and (Mrs. Todd). They said you were great hosts. They'll be back next week. :D ;D Dominick

Thank You for honoring our king. ;)
He is a good Man as you. ;)
Your wife looks way too happy!
Good Company is hard to find.
actually, i think around here, good company is pretty easy to find!!!!! ;D
can't believe it. every piece of salmon is either gone or spoken for!
By all accounts a stellar trip and that last photo is mouthwatering! Any tips on how it was prepared?
I had to post this pic Ben took of the Boss doing a little plinking off of the deck after dinner. We were enjoying a cigar with another buddy and Ben and the Boss was busy stump shooting. Good time. The Red Rider got a work out !

preheat the oven to "broil," set the rack "second from the top," about 6-8 inches from the heating element. the pan has a light coating of olive oil, the fish are allowed to reach something close to room temperature, cut in 1.5 to 2 inch strips, no piece greater than 1.5 inches thick, skin side down, then a light brush of olive oil, coarse ground salt and coarse ground pepper to taste. set the timer to 6 minutes, toss it in, resist the temptation to look, pull it out at exactly 6 minutes, let the smoke clear, let the fish rest a bit, plate and serve.
it works every time.
Very nice pic Alan, but I would never have my back at a guy with a rifle... no matter how much I trust him ;D
