Title: Penn Jigmaster Two Piece Box Question
Post by: Scotch on July 27, 2019, 05:36:51 PM
Hi there,

From what I have found on this site, this reel and box is a 1958, but what I don't understand is the difference between a 500M 2 part box and a 500 2 part box with an extra metal spool?

Any info on this would be great, as this kind of fell in my lap.

Thanks,

Scotch

Hi There Scotch - welcome.
The Jigmaster came out in two versions - the 500, with a plastic 'lightweight' spool, with a spare plastic spool in the box,
and the 500m - harder to find in a box - with only one Metal spool, hence in a smaller box.

Great find - lovely reel!! Now you need to find the 500m in box to complete the set!!

Down the rabbit hole you go!!
Cheers
Martin

Thank you for the info.

This box came with a spare metal spool, so I'm guessing the person ordered a metal spool? I'm not a collector of vintage reels, more of a collector of Calstar WC and St Croix rods.

While you're at it you Might look for an early 500 with the sticker, before they made the mold for the head plate.
