Title: Down riggers
Post by: AlasKen on April 25, 2021, 03:00:04 AM
I have decided this group knows everything about fishing and related topics.
I have some 10+ year old canon Mag 5 downriggers.  I have done exactly zero maintenance.  I put them on when using and take them off after.  I typically take them off and stow them before heading in so limit salt water spray.

Is there maintenance that I should be doing.  They continue working fine, ie they go down and then come up.

Just thought I would ask. Thanks. Ken

No worries then.

Pull up the maintenance manual and go for some maintenance.  I'm sure it can use lubrication on some of the moving parts.  Dominick

Until they do not.

Then, things suck. Dave has taught me tons about PM.

How critical is that one fish, or one days' fishing?

Don't ask for, or wait, nor invite, trouble with your gear or your vessel.
