Title: I Just Could Not Help Myself!
Post by: Keta on March 23, 2013, 05:36:49 PM
And I blame you all, especialy Sal.
I've been off and on working on trying to make a narrow spool for one of my 112H reels, more off than on, and it looks like someone got Tiberone to do it for me.  I had funds setting in my PayPal account and I just had to have one!  I bite on blue best too.

Nice Lee, you will have fun with that reel.  I love the color too.  I am trying to hold off but I might be right behind you with a purchase.

Lee, earlier you thanked me and now you're blaming me, what's going on buddy?
Now if that's the case, I'm not showing you what I just came up with on that reel, by using a 15-500 and a 15-309 ss dogs.  ;D

Lee, I'm glad you bought one. Now if he would only sell out. That cobalt blue is nice. I am tempted so I hope others remove the temptation.  We need pics of the finished reel.   Bob

Blame and thanks :o   I just got back from the shop digging out a useable 112H and making sure I have all of the parts.  This reel might get a set of 5:1 gears as soon as Alan makes them available.

You did good Lee.  You already know I'll be getting some. ;)
I tried something different with the dogs and it's working nicely. This isn't too hard to do
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/pescatore1/parsts%20an%20such/003-12.jpg)
As you can see I used a 15-500 that you modified and a 15-309
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/pescatore1/parsts%20an%20such/004-9.jpg)
and here is a shot of the bridge in place
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/pescatore1/parsts%20an%20such/014-8.jpg)
and the reel back together so I could test it
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g431/pescatore1/parsts%20an%20such/016-8.jpg)
The reel works flawlessly, free spool is great and the dogs make a nice sound. No issues with clearance.

Bula Lee,

Probably 40lb Spectra, it should hold a little more than a 501.

Lee, if you could pm the email of Greg. I seem to have lost/deleted mine off my email list. I know the eBay listing states only available in the cobalt blue. Not really my color. Wanted to see if there was a possible alternate color in the works.

Thanks, Bob

I've just been communicating with him through E-bay.  All he has is blue....but that's the color I prefer.

Nice upgrade there Lee. I got a couple of those blue narrow kits from Gregg for two of my P 533 5.5s and love them.

Guys, just be careful when you purchase the smaller frames for the 100, 146 and 501.
Gregg and myself were going back and forth with a Tiburon Rep. I had issues with the new style frames, the rod clamp on those wouldn't get tight on a standard rod. Gregg actually had to send me some of his own frames with the older style clamp.
They designed the new style for  California fishermen, apparently they use a different rod than we do here in the NE, the reel seat is larger than ours. They always have to be different ::).
I mentioned to Gregg and Tiburon that I wouldn't be purchasing anymore frames until they correct them and make them the same as they used to be. They told me that they would go back to the older style, but I'm not so sure. Just make sure what type of clamp you will be getting with yours.... if you do order one of those smaller frames.
Sal

Yeah, I know. Alan T. Just hooked me up with a spare foot that I could grind down to fit the rod. This to keep one that was not hacked up. I thought it eas just my choice of rods.

I have an Avet EX 4/0 that does the same thing.

The design is ridiculous, I don't see why they would change it. The new clamp bolts  is almost half the size in thickness from the original. I have clamps and bolts, the problem is that the frame is drilled about 1/16" tighter. You could enlarge it and re-tap, but you will void their warranty as soon as you do.

Newell I did the same to a G454. Lee the green could work for me. Or do I hold out for a silver, black or red?

If you like green get one from Greg, he put in the effort to get this special run made by Tib.  I bite blue better.

The problem with my EX4/0 is different, the foot was not long enough and the reel seat would not hold it.

All you guys that are worried about the esthetics of the colors,  :o  go for the blue frame and powder coat the rings white.  What better colors than red, white and blue?   ::)  Dominick

Not a problem Bob!

Domenico, that's a great idea about the white rings ;). Someone here was supposed to do something like that for me a while back, but I don't remember who.

Awww, Lee, why did you have to go and do this! ;)  You know how much I like narrow reels!  Now I have to decide if a $150 frame kit (and a 112H reel, which I don't have) will fit in my budget.  And I can't use the excuse that the kits are all sold, as there are still 5 available.

I do prefer a silver colored frame, though.

Thanks pal,
George

When I lived in Japan, I thought they were bad. Everything was color coordinated. Rods, reels, bucket, tackle bag, cooler, and rod bag. I looked like a bum fishing in Japan with my Levi's jeans and a blood stained tshirt. Now you guys?

This narrowed up 112H. Any one know the line capacity?? I'm thinking double dog, new 5:1 gears from Black Pearl, SS sleeve and maybe the hex cf washers Sal was working up. Sounds like a plan!!

I'd guess about 25% more than a 501/506.

Thanks Lee. I had started another thread asking basically the same question. Just trying to get funds together for the frame kit now.

You may have funds laying all around not being used. Last fall I wanted some custom Calstars and cleaned out my closets on ebay and in few weeks I had $1700 for rods.

My guess was a little off,  It looks just shy of 11% more than a 501/506 based on the 112H and 500.
112H 300/30
500 275/30
