I had to check myself into the ER the other night. For 3 days I couldn't eat or drink without getting sick.
Once in the hospital they sent me to another CT scan. The spots they saw last November are indeed cancerous.
My nephew is a Dr of Radiation Oncologist. He treats cancer but he is in Tallahassee.q
I haven't seen the cancer yet to tell me what type it is. My nephew needs this so he can give me an unbiased opinion.
Another challenge!
Keith
Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that Keith!

Keith
Today I was told it's in my lymph nodes upper lungs and spreading fast.!

I wish you the best Keith ! I will be rooting for you. John Taylor
I've had my first dose an hour ago. The nurse said that she gave me enough meds for nausea that I should not get sick. I trust her!
Now I have had my 3 doses of chemotherapy.
I should be going home soon. They told me that I would start getting sick and lose my hair in 10 days. I'm very thin anyway so I'm curious about what it will look like!
Stay strong Keith you got this. Bill
I just saw this Keith. Sorry for your pain. Stay Strong.
Your positive outlook is inspiring Keith! I believe it is beneficial health-wise also!

Yes I agree, that is good news, you will have good & bad days when your on the medication, & possibly loose your taste, Keith you have been such a good man to all us members, would it be possible for you to post a picture of yourself, please, cheers Don.
Yep my taste will go away then my hair. I'm thin anyway so I'm curious what it's going to look like
My friend Ted has done it again. Nothing has tasted good lately. What was good last week I can't eat now. My stepmom's homemade Spaghetti sauce is one example.
Until I remembered the Salmon that Ted had sent me again this year.
I was able to eat a whole slab of the amazing fish.
It's the most I've eaten in a while.
Thanks Ted you may have a cure in there!
Nice Keith !! That albacore is loaded with Omega3 and is also very easy to digest. Your body will absorb most of it so it won't make you turd. It's totally ok to eat 7 days a week. Some packs may have smoked salmon in with the albacore. Hope you are feeling better
Stay thirsty my friend
Ted
Keith, you keep eating that yummy stuff from Ted, and remember, your friends are all thinking of ya.
You're as solid as they get whether bald or in a wheelchair you can't be stopped.
Thanks for keeping us posted, pal.
Best,
Dom
I still wear the Hollywood 😆T shirt
Hate that crap, took everyone on my mother's side, hang tough and good luck!
Are you out of the hospital Keith? I hope all has been going well.
I came home on the first of the month. I slept almost 24 hours.
You don't get any sleep on the hospital.
They did come in every 2 hours to turn me.
Then a couple of young techs would come in and say Are you clean and dry. Like I didn't know.
I had the social worker tell them to stop.
One good thing is that some of the girls were very pretty 😍
Always look at the bright side of things !! ................ keep up the good fight.
Cheers:
Todd
"You don't get any sleep in the hospital". Yes, I've always been bothered by that. A person in that situation needs better rest.
Woke-up once with blood all over my upper body cause the IV pulled-out of my arm from tossing and turning. Too much noise, but what'er ya gonna do? The Nurse was so irritated at having to clean me-up that I yelled back at her and checked myself-out. My doc tried to talk me out of it, but couldn't. Professionalism is impossible for some to do, 100% of the time.
Praying for your return to health, buddy.
Just saw this Keith. Having a time navigating the site.
You have always been a good friend and an inspiration. I want to keep it that way.
A few years back, my wife was in the hospital. I backed a chair up next to the door so they would stop coming in every 15 minutes.
Ted's Albacore and Salmon is truly amazing!
You Hang tough and prayers on the way brother!

I have a funny story about my head.
My attorney sent me to a life care plan Specialist.
It's their job to figure out the costs of being paralyzed and future job employment.
I had a job waiting for me when I got out.
Anyway they gave me IQ test. The results were 135

I can't do that.
My nephew does this and I tell him how stupid it looks.
I used to do the full beard. I don't know if I still can but it'd be all gray so I don't really want to go there... my mustache, beard, eyebrows are 90% gray already, ok, 95%! At least my head just looks 'distinguished'!

I just had an argument with a nurse. He was telling another patient that Oxygen is flammable.
I had to tell him to look it up
Oxygen is not flammable. It does raise the flash point of material in the room
I also need to find a member that is willing to take these parts in bulk.
2 boxes of rings for all reels
2 boxes of Senator handle side plates and tail plates
Lots of reel stands
Plenty of parts, parts, and parts
Im going to send the bearing pullers to Jason

Keith so glad to see you here,,,,,,, :D not seen you on striper.com and there losted with out you,,,,,,, ;D
sorry to hear that Keith,I will be praying for you as well.
I had the privilege of meeting Keith this weekend, after making the 7 hour drive up here to the tip of the panhandle. He's a pretty cool dude and so is his son. No surprise there.
He wanted me to take most his parts, and he very generously gave me probably a majority of his collection too. It's a really weird feeling as I'm driving home (stopped now to eat). it's hard to be as excited as I should be about this truckload of super cool stuff. Given a choice in the matter I would obviously prefer he get to stick around and keep using it. But I will be eternally grateful.
It's gonna take a bit to get all this stuff organized, but my intent is to keep these parts available to the good folks of this forum, for roughly what it cost me ($0 except maybe shipping). Stay tuned for that. It's a literal truckload to organize and maybe even catalog.
Keith I'll say it again. god bless you my friend. You're a good dude.
Life goes on Jason and it's all good 👍
The hardest part is letting something go that you love so much. I felt like I lost another dog!
It was my happiest time working on anything that gives my mind a challenge.
I did notice that you should have brought a bigger truck!!
Thats a pretty strong analogy. Hopefully it helps to know that "dog" is going to a very loving home.

PS- Jason, I'm Glad you can appreciate the trust and importance of what you've been gifted.
It's been 4 days and I am still trying to come to a more solid understanding of the extent of this blessing. This is such a game changer for me. I don't have a better word for it. It's definitely not the way I'd have chosen to expand my collection, but I wasn't gonna waste the opportunity.
Quote from: JasonGotaProblem on March 09, 2023, 11:40:30 AMtrying to come to a more solid understanding of the extent of this blessing.
Things happen for a reason. You'll understand when you're ready. Occasionally you look back on all the events that led to where you are and you know there's a plan. One thing that's outstanding about this group is the "pay it forward" attitude. No one is here for personal gain.
This place gives but doesn't take and grace seems to always be around to keep it cool. We're all blessed by watching you be blessed.
Keith let off a bless bomb!

I remember going to the chemo doc with my wife and her telling the doc that she was done. The doc said that was probably a good call at that point. She went on hospice and passed at home 5 months later... that was 10 years ago on March 3. We went to Europe while she was on hospice so that she could go to 3 countries that she had missed and another Springsteen show at the Pond.

Fair winds and following Seas Keith. :al
THE SHIP OF LIFE
by John T. Baker
Along the shore I spy a ship
As she sets out to sea;
She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze
And slips away from me.
I watch her fading image shrink,
As she moves on and on,
Until at last she's but a speck,
Then someone says, "She's gone."
Gone where? Gone only from our sight
And from our farewell cries;
That ship will somewhere reappear
To other eager eyes.
Beyond the dim horizon's rim
Resound the welcome drums,
And while we're crying, "There she goes!"
They're shouting, "Here she comes!"
We're built to cruise for but a while
Upon this trackless sea
Until one day we sail away
Into infinity.
"Well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the Sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-earth. Go in peace! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil."
(Gandolf, "The Lord of the Rings")
I sit beside the fire and think
of all that I have seen,
of meadow-flowers and butterflies
in summers that have been;
Of yellow leaves and gossamer
in autumns that there were,
with morning mist and silver sun
and wind upon my hair.
I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall ever see.
For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring
there is a different green.
I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago,
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.
But all the while I sit and think
of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door.
(Bilbo Baggins, "The Lord of the Rings")

I search his name + "obituary" about every other day. Nothing yet. He had stopped chemo and was on full hospice care, so I hate to say it but the odds of recovery are slim. But then again not everyone does obituaries. So it may have already happened and it just wasnt announced.
I intend to get at least one of the reels he gave me engraved in his memory, so I'd want to know the date. I'm sure it's a public record thing, I would just need to figure out where to search.

Keith has been straight solid, the whole way. What a warrior. Giving out advice on drags while I'm pretty sure he was on his phone on AT while in chemo. I am just content that he is in a comfortable place. Even in his wheelchair he was still working out and bench pressing more than your average folk, not even taking his age into account. He is missed.
Keith has reached the end of one long, difficult road and we all were benefactors of his presence and travels through this life. As he begins this next chapter may he find peace and rest, and his family and loved ones comfort in his journey onward. -john
I just saw this,Keith sent me 2-304s right before he went to the hospital the last time.He saw a post I made about 304s and just gave them to me.Sounds like a great man.I never met him in person, but one day soon.
A boulder or a pebble,
each make ripples when tossed in the pond
Soon forgotten in the onward rotation of life
The rock disappears from our view, as the surface stills
But the ripples made in the hearts, minds, and memories of others,
are never lost or forgotten
They remain always

Thanks Keith,
For your example as a friend, teacher, and a rock.
Knew it was going to happen, but it's still a shock. :'(
I'm gonna miss ya, Keith. Happy I got to know you, pal.
Rest easy and enjoy your legs, as others have said, "You are whole again."
God bless you and your family.
See you again some day and say hi to our Ohana up there for us.
Dom
RIP
So sad to hear, condolences to his family.
RIP
!!!!!!! :0( !!!!!!
So sad to hear about this. My condolences to the family.
Godspeed Keith, you will be missed.
Sad Day for ohana for sure, I went to a fishing trip with my family yesterday after two yeas hiatus and thought about Keith while fishing, finding this news today is shocking.
This was supossed to be a "secret for his son" but I think I need help from other spurces now, Im working on a custom rod Keith ordered to me for his Son Lucas, Keith stopped answering my mails, phone texts and calls but he did told me what kind of rod he wanted for his Son, colors for the guide wraps and he was very specific on what he wanted for the lettering for the rod.
I read that Keith was on hospice care at home few days ago and knew why he wasnt getting back to me, at that moment I was (and still) determined to finish the rod and send it to his home as it was our agrement but now I dont know which address I need to use to send the fishing rod to.
I still need few days more to finish the custom rod but I only have the address that came in the shipping box on which he send me some penn parts I bough him recently ( he sent me some freebies there :) ), so, I can use that address or maybe someone can help to find the address of Lucas to use that one.
You fought like a MoFo amigo, now its time to rest.

Well said Alex. Bill
I never met the man but he helped me out once and sent me a PM which was appreciated.
Rest in Peace amd my condolences to all who were close to him.
condolences to keith's family, i never met him, but the only thing i ever saw was him helping others and living his life in spite of his limitations. bye keith, catch a big one!
Always a gentleman with me, and certainly a role model of a life well lived in the face of adversity. Condolences to his many friends and family.
News we all expected, but hoped against hope we would not hear. Peace to all.
What is the old fisherman's prayer--something like "I hope when my time comes, God will find me big enough to keep"? No one can speak for God, but I suspect the "big enough" quality might be met here. What do you think, folks?
Frank

Text Keith's phone. His son is likely monitoring his texts. That is how I found out that Keith had passed.
As a registered nurse, despite this being all too common, it sucks and is unfortunate. Condolences to the family..cool guy he was..
You were a good guy Keith. R.I.P.
R.I.P. Keith...your input here was huge and will be sorely missed.
I met Keith Many Times. We would Chat in his workshop about reels and fishing. Just a really good honest Guy.
We lost a good one.
I'll see you on the other side my Friend,
Daron
tom, i hope that you don't mind my stealing your photo. moving this over to a different section...... :'(
This is Donna Keith's sister. Reading all of these comments to Keith is so heartwarming. It's amazing how many lives he touched while on this earth. He passed away peacefully and was ready. We are working through him not being with us but know he is no longer in pain, his body is whole again and he is fishing with Paul and repairing all of the disciples reels!
Thank you for all your prayers.
Donna and Luke
Thanks, Donna & Luke —-
Our deepest condolences during this time.
It is impossible to know or count how many folks that Keith touched with his humor, knowledge, helpfulness, and a willingness to treat everyone as a friend.
His courage and stamina were very evident, as well as an inspiration to each of us.
A good man that will never be forgotten.
Best Always,
Fred

Donna and Luke,
My deepest condolences. Keith will be missed. I enjoyed talking with him from time to time, comparing notes and learning of solutions. I will not be able to make it for the service physically, but will be there in spirit.
A Hui hou (til we meet again)

Thanks Donna & Luke, unfortunately, I never had a chance to meet him, me being on the other side of the world, in Western Australia, but what a really nice person he was, always very helpful, to us all, keep well, cheers Don.
Donna: I never met Keith but we did talk on the phone and by text. Even when he was not feeling great he always made time. My condolences to you and the family.
