Title: Drag rating on Ocea Jigger 5000 P after Carbontex installed
Post by: Jon_Kol on September 26, 2016, 03:04:00 PM
Hi!

This weekend I installed the Carbontex kit for the Ocea Jigger 5000 P reel for a friend of mine. This reel is listed as having 15 Kilo (33 lbs) max drag with the original discs.

With the Carbontex discs installed, we measured the reel getting almost 19 Kilo (42 lbs) worth of drag. Still we could have maybe squeezed one last click out of the drag. In every part of the test, the drag was smooth when the reel started turning - no skipping or uneven drag.

We noted that the reel increased the drag by 1,5 Kilo (3,30 lbs) per click of the star drag.

Also worth mentioning that the original discs were quite stuck to the metal parts of the drag system, and they had clear signs of binding - simular to the marks you see on the brake disc of a car.

My friend is very pleased, hopefully he'll get the reel tested on some proper fish soon.

Well, just wanted to share the info. :)

I have seen similar results on the US equivalent Trinidad Series as well.

Carbontex is like a miracle drug for fishing reels.
