Based SOLELY on Fred's prior post recommendation, lunch at Taco Temple!
This is ONE Baja-style Fish Taco, JUST ONE!  Fantastic to say the least!  Thanks Fred, I owe you on this one!

Stopped by Morro Bay Landing to settle up our bill.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0056_zpsktrpgn5m.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0056_zpsktrpgn5m.jpg.html)

Here is Glenn getting the bill taken care of, I used his knowledge base to increase my odds of big ling cod on this trip.  More later.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0058_zpsdcjp2bwq.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0058_zpsdcjp2bwq.jpg.html)

Need I say more???

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0060_zps27fflsdn.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0060_zps27fflsdn.jpg.html)

Totally off topic, but walking thru the parking lot I veiwed this Honda Trail 90!  Used one for a summer while in high school working construction for my Dad's company, and SCARY where this trail bike would ALWAYS take me!!!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0063_zpshaweip83.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0063_zpshaweip83.jpg.html)

At Alan's Cayucos home, here is the assortment of AT.com members:  Jack, Alan, Scott & a guy who ended up in all but three photos!!!  Big Tim!!!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0065_zpsu2qjjsrb.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0065_zpsu2qjjsrb.jpg.html)

More of the members:  Again, and I do apologize for Tim ending up in MOST of the photos:  Tim, Steve, Bill, Alan and Jonathan's marathon-running spouse, Mari.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0069_zps3xmgkm9d.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0069_zps3xmgkm9d.jpg.html)

Joe & Jack heading out for some surf fishing time after dinner,

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0081_zpsycdhoxmh.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0081_zpsycdhoxmh.jpg.html)

It was low tide, but they still caught some surf perch!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0083_zpsrhfr31m2.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0083_zpsrhfr31m2.jpg.html)

Parking suituation at the Cayucos home, I'm sure many parking and moving violations would end up in tickets if the local enforcement dept. were to stop by!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0087_zps19tzewmb.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0087_zps19tzewmb.jpg.html)

Today is THE DAY, April 17, and we are heading out for what will become a VERY MEMORABLE DAY to say the least!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0090_zpsrkmqs93i.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0090_zpsrkmqs93i.jpg.html)

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0111_zpsx5unclme.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0111_zpsx5unclme.jpg.html)

Really Big Tim???  Another photo??  and when possible with a pretty young fishing lady!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0105_zpsvy1t0dk4.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0105_zpsvy1t0dk4.jpg.html)

Just a perfect picture day on the Central Coast of Big Sur!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0107_zpsi5i08krq.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0107_zpsi5i08krq.jpg.html)

Today, NOT A SINGLE boat rod/reel was brought out, but what a variety of reels for the day.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0134_zpsgbvmkehz.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0134_zpsgbvmkehz.jpg.html)

Rods the same.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0135_zpsm3iah2qk.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0135_zpsm3iah2qk.jpg.html)

As a lifelong CA resident, this view never fails to amaze me - the Central Coast of CA - Baja Sur Coast.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0138_zpsukguhez9.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0138_zpsukguhez9.jpg.html)

Here we go, here goes the 1st drop!  At days end, Alan will have caught most of the big lings, not the cash pool fish, but MOST of the big lings,  Alan, what is your secret????

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0149_zpsfa49ve9q.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0149_zpsfa49ve9q.jpg.html)

My 1st Red of the day and all my fish were caught on Iron, just dropping iron all day.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0153_zpsswfekn0z.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0153_zpsswfekn0z.jpg.html)

Some of my day-use Tackle:  What I learned from Glenn is the following:
Use single 5/0 or 6/0 hooks
Use 40 lbs. test line, I used 25 lbs. line, and lost 3 lures and yes, 3 fish!, BIG FISH!!!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0154_zpsbbhitaip.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0154_zpsbbhitaip.jpg.html)

;D ;D ;D Awesome Wayne, I am a better after meeting you, but I may have to sober up a bit first  ;D So glad you and Rick made it & had a great time. It seems as though I've talked a few of you city folk into coming back to my stomping grounds in the future ? I promised flat calm seas, but missed it a bit on the hot weather? Darn glad I'm not perfect.

Putting the "####" in sarcasstic.

You asked for more of him and here is the star of the day...  BIG TIM!!!!!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0160_zpsgr33cvma.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0160_zpsgr33cvma.jpg.html)

And my big fish of the day, 12 1/2 lbs. Ling Cod!!!!  And THANK YOU Fred for the fixed up & repaired Surfmaster 100, it did the job for the day.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0164_zpsgmxro25r.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0164_zpsgmxro25r.jpg.html)

BUT I did learn something today, when you have your thumb in the mouth of your day's biggest Ling Cod, and club it on the head to stop the threshing on the deck, get ready for LOCK JAW!!!! It took me 30 seconds to get my thumb back out of the locked down jaws of this now disabled fish.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0166_zpsst20htac.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0166_zpsst20htac.jpg.html)

Rick was SO CLOSE to losing this Red, hooked by its Chinny Chin Chin!!!!!

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0176_zpsfxzhfigi.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0176_zpsfxzhfigi.jpg.html)

Dominick YOU would have LOVED today, there was NO wave or swell action to speak of!  Just like Baja.

(http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii518/wdeutscher/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0184_zpsd0rccicw.jpg) (http://s1257.photobucket.com/user/wdeutscher/media/Morro%20Bay%20Alan%20Tani%200416/IMG_0184_zpsd0rccicw.jpg.html)

It was different than any other Grappa I've enjoyed, this is golden colored, Honeydew Vine Water to say the least!!!

Thanks Sal!!!!!!!   Wayne

Thanks for sharing.  Makes me so envious that I couldn't go because there was no way I would have been able to drive home and go in to work today.

Wow! Great pictorial!

You captured the weekend Wayne, thanks!

Potluck dinner Saturday night was a  gourmet's delight.

Golden grappa was appreciated by everyone. Thanks to the supplier!

When the party was over there were a few half full bottles of good red wine with the corks in the trash. What else could we do? Tim, Alan and I did our duty.

Tim can tell a story and they just got better.

Alan did school us 'youngsters' all weekend on the finer angling arts but, when he told me I needed to find a left handed smoke shifter - I got suspicious.

Weekend was a blast with nothing but friendly rants and laughs.

Wayne, please thank Rick for the pickled vegetables from Taco Temple.

Small town fact; the owner of Taco Temple is the brother of the owner of our boat the Endeavor.

Jonathan, do you want the Rockfish/Ling Cod skins for your surf fishing bait???  If so, I'll freeze them until you are in the SF Bay area next.

If you don't want the skins, I'll take them over to Dominick's and drop the bag in his trash!!!!!

Send me a PM.     Wayne

Marc the blue tint comes from arsenic in ling cod.  I will go get all the blue ling cod and destroy it.   :D ;D Dominick

NO! Dom the blue tint is actually a result of the nuclear waste emitting from the San Louis power plant & and thus the result of REM " Roentgen equivalent man" in the salt water off the central coast of California, then the Lingcod turns green and glows in the night. Therefore all green Lingcod should be turned over to me so that my brother in law Mike who was on this trip and works as an Archaeologist for PG & E at that plant can  inspect the REM limits (with me of coarse) to make sure they actually are edible. All un used samples that are deemed to have acceptable levels of REM will be returned to the fisherman ASAP.

;D ;D ;D

OK Hans (Dominick) and Franz (BigTim),

Let's give the honest answer to Marc,

Per Wikipedia, about 20% of Ling Cod have blue skin & flesh, and the cooking process will destroy the blue tint.

     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingcod

Either way, it was a FANTASTIC trip.

Sorry Marc  ;D  They all turn white when cooking and have a fabulous taste & texture. I have seen many white, blue/green an even tan color Lings over the years an am sure it's due to the food and surroundings in which they inhabit.

It was great getting to meet a lot of you on Saturday, dinner was delicious and a lot of fun...the veggie lasagna was my favorite.

I dedicated my trip to Dominick, in case anybody on board the boat did not know. Lol

Thanks for taking all the pics and capturing the moments Wayne, it was great meeting you, and hopefully we can all get together again!

Scott ,
I suffer the same malady.
My best friend is Scopolamine, I never leave home without it.
I have never been sick using the patch and we go way offshore 40-50 miles on the big sailboat.
Tell your doc what you do and they should write a script for 4 doses plus 3 refills.
I will pass the compliment about the lasagana to Mari.
Best,
Jonthan

Scott,

It was my pleasure meeting you and picking your brain & experience re: San Diego Long Range trips.  I know you were not feeling your best on this past boat trip, let's hope for better next time!

Let's book another trip and get back out on the water.

is the fish skin really used on surf fishing? how do you guys use it?

this is new to me and I do a lot of surf fishing for triggers and spotted bass and normally discard all fish skin from YT and sierras

I use the skin on both swim baits and jigs as well as 1 oz Silver Kastmasters.
For the swim baits I like Big Hammers and just make a long tail about the length of the swim bait.
For the Kastmasters I both make tails and what my Dad called a body/tail.
I will see if I have some pics on the home computer later.

Cool thing about skin bait is that you rarely lose one because the skin is so tough.
Works really well in rocky areas.

Leave some meat on the skin. It's been used on the East Coast [Long Island] for Fluke since before I was born. Pieces 2-3" long work great for Black Sea Bass. I fillet the small Cunners for Sea Bass.

Great photos and write-up "El Pescador". Really enjoyed it. Years ago I watched a guy gettin one surf perch after another near the big rock, where the power plant effluent was comin out. I brought home a Monterey Bay cabezon to my chinese mom-in-law once(everything but the guts gets cooked) and when she saw the blue -green flesh, she freaked out, certain her crazy American son-in-law had soaked/washed it in dish soap! We got that same thing in Hawaii with the needlefish, even the bones are a bluish color.
