There has been some pictures and talk about these Big Senators lately.
If you own one, let us see it. I have two, and they are definitely my favorites.
The one on the left I bought from a pawn shop a few years ago. It was the best money I ever spent.
The one on the right, I acquired recently. It is not near as pristine as the first, but cost me $200 more.
These Legends are slowly becoming extinct.
Here is Ted's. It is a Beauty!
Those are monsters.

John,
It came from Ebay about 6 years ago. I considered myself very lucky to win it.
Here are a couple of mine, some day I should fish with one. First is the 5 O'clock ( first gen. ) handle reel with the same small bridge and sleeve assy. and drags as used on the 12/0.
The second is the 7 O'clock ( second gen. ) handle reel that again has the same bridge, sleeve, and drag assy. as the 12/0 reels. From what I can tell these were made between 1940 & 1941.

Here is my 16/0 juxtaposed with a 1/0 for contrast. That is brand new 200lb test mono ready to fish. Please no comments about the mess on my bench. The last photo of the engraving is spectacular. Dominick

Nice, what's the biggest fish you have landed with it?

Brian, I never fished it. It is too big to lug around and too big for the fish I target. It really is a shelfie. If I was going to fish sharks off the beach like Daron I would drag it along. I big game fish in the Sea of Cortez and could hook into a grander but the odds are against that. So I look at it. Dominick
Good Photos Dominick. Sal is holding out on us. ;)
Nice reels all you guys...........I'm with you Daron, Sal is holding back and gonna pop everyones bubble all at once.
BTW, Dom is hold back too. ;)
No, not much to show among you guys, Dom is the one you're after ;)
Sharker, I'm no party pooper, so here is mine... he's temporarily holding line a for another reel.
Sal
Look at the Shine on that Baby! ;D
Hold on, I need to find my sun glasses. 8)
Sal, that red handle sets it off over the top. That reel with box and all the goodies could fetch 2 grand on a good day. Now go put it back into hibernation, and thanks for sharing that beautiful 16/0. One vote for photo of the month !!
I second the photo of the month, beauty Sal! Thanks for sharing.
Some stunning Gigantosaurus Rex reels pictured. I appreciate both the collecting and using of these monsters.
Cheers fellas.
That 16/0 is amazingly clean.
man, I really want a 16/0. I keep telling myself to get one but I just can't bring myself to do it. In my mind ill keep it on a shelf but I know it'll end up on the beach.
If you don't want one you are hanging out on the wrong site. Just saying.

Ha ha, well said Thor
If you walk into a room full of people with a 16/0 on a rod, it's similar to walking in the room with a cute little puppy....everyone wants to touch it and feel it and pet it ...and play with it. ;D ;D
LOL I like hanging out here but have zero desire to fish with those big reels.
They all make me tired just looking at them.
;D

Sort of like going to a party, and wondering which of the attendees are jet pilots -- don't worry, they will let you know!...
Best,

Welcome to the Club. ;D
New to the club. Got this beauty for a sweet deal from a man in okinawa Japan. Would love to make her into a trophy reel, but this reel is a working girl. Hookin all over the world! Took a few pictures and played with lighting and editing to bring out the best features of the side plate. Anyone know anything about a bamboo looking handle? Well glad to be im the club guys! I'm thinking I might be the youngest at 23?
Stay salty gentleman! -Jake

Yep, what Mo said! :D
As for Mr. Shark's 20/O Everol, well, I could probably bench press it...
probably. :P

Post away!
Got it...pulled the line off...dismantled...multiple SG soaks and a few 'tufts' of nevrdull and I'm tickled with the outcome. These big guys are works of art and a pleasure/honor to own/work on. It's another one of those reels that we are just caretakers for until we pass on...and then these reels will be passed on...a humbling thought and a true testament to quality of our friends at Penn.
I love this picture in black and white!
Ok...enough... ;)
Nice reel Dan, congratulations! I believe all Penn lovers should have at least a 16/0.
Very nice buddy, enjoy it!
Sal
Good Work Dan,
The Biggest Senator is only for those whose Dreams Become Reality. ;)
Good on ya Bro. ;D
My dream became my reality when I married my favorite wife, but a 16/0 Senator hasn't been part of my dreams. If something rips out my 14/0, it might creep in, but since that hasn't happened yet (and I dare anything to try), I'm quite satisfied. :)
Thinking about it a bit more, if something does strip the 14/0, I might go to the Shark Hunter route straight to the Everol. Why play around with the cannon when you can have a nuke?

True Dat!
You say your favorite wife Albert. I only have one. ;)
Can I join the club with my 14/0 ?
It's really a narrow 16/0, right? ;D
I think we can make an exception for you Erik.
Good to see you my man! ;D
I only have one, and she's my favorite.

Spent the evening working on another one of these Legends.
It keeps me sane. ;)
That one certainly seems to have been in good condition. Did you upgrade the clamp to a ringed one on that guy?
No,
I don't have one John.
The only mods were a stainless sleeve and Butterscotch Handle.
I received a nice surprise today.
A plinth of a different fashion from Greg. (Islandgypsy)
He calls it the Shark Hunter Special.
I love it Greg. Thank You.
You have some skills my man.
My 16/0 is the centerpiece for sure now. ;)
Wow!!! Love it! Skills for sure!
Daron, the mako tooth holder is for coiling what's left of your hook and leader when (not if ) you catch that first 10 footer ;) Greg
I can't stop looking at this set-up...they were meant to be together! That shark-tooth puts it over the top for Daron.
Greg - next time you are making a few of these let me know and if you are interested in selling one, I'd love to have my 16/0 nesting on one . Obviously, not with the tooth though as Darons is quite special ;)
Edit: And let me know the cost shipped up to the North East!
Very nicely done, Greg. Simple design, functional, and beautiful. I like the mako tooth and Penn emblem as that's what Big D is all about. 8)
Another class act move done only here on AT.com. Yeah Baby!
Enjoy your class A plinth,
Dom
Love it! 8)
Thanks for the compliments, guys. Dan, when our world turns white here in Central Oregon ( got about 4-5 inches on the ground now ) , like one of Santa's elves I go out to my little wood shop and make sawdust. Will keep you in mind after the holidays are over. Greg
Beautiful job on that piece Greg. Daron is right, you do have spme skills.
Sal
It's perfect Greg, and that mako tooth is the ultimate finishing touch for our number one Shark Hunter.
Randy
Having made so many plinths for so many of us here, it's wonderfully fitting and proper that Mr. Shark gets a custom-built beauty for his 16/0. Spectacular work, Greg! You are an artisan for sure. ;)
~A~
Love it 8)
So, did someone here get the 16/0 Lamp the other day? That thing was neat!
Sweet!
