I can't tell from the schematic..which side goes down? I'm thinking the side with the cuts...

the beveled side goes against the eccentric jack.

I assume you mean this piece? Daiwa schematic. Calls it yoke plate

That's it. The yoke plate "bumps" push( or pull?)into the beveled side of the yolk.
