Title: ambassaeur 8-9000
Post by: fishhawk on February 12, 2016, 10:25:24 PM
I just have to have an old bassadeur (8-9000 series) But not ever having seen one in person I'm unsure of dimensions. I know the 8600 is wider than a 8000c (?) and the 9000 SEEMS to be (pics) a narrowed 10000? What I want to know if one is narrower than a 7000?
thanx

9000 is narrow 10000. I don't have one but see below: 10000 two speed synchro, 8000 two speed synchro, 7000. I aligned head side flanges for scale of width; however the 8000 is larger in diameter than 7000 so holds a bit more line I think, even though in the pic the 7000 appears to.

You are correct, you need one. Or several. I also have 10000 BG.

That said, what you want is "Made in Sweden", not SEA.

Let's see pics when you acquire!

Well I ended with a really clean 8600 and they say it's same as 9000 except it's single speed??? If this is true how much wider is a 10000 than a 7000?
thanx

Does the "Striper Drag" differ from the standard 8600 drag?
I have an ABU 12 which has the same drag as the 8600.
That is a very desirable reel you have. Does it have brass side plates?
thanks
Basto

Hi basto, the 8600,striper drag, 12, and 8500 are all same! To confuse matters worse the afore mentioned reel is same as 9000c except its a single speed! The 8600 was abu's 1st attempt into the big game scene and numbers got really weird! Also the 8000c is narrower than the 8600's!
yes it has the brass side plates. Looks like to me the 8600 uses different drag washers than the others. ( Even dawn said they were weird sizes!) It dont have much for drag washers but has got a ton of drag! Is it because of the huge main gear?
Now all this info came from bits n pieces I picked up here n there so please don't hold me to it! Eager n ready for criticism at all times!
I didn't know it was very diserable? I got it dirt cheap on fleabay, didn't have a handle, half spool of line, dirty looking, But it wasn't! I think someone bought this reel and couldn't cast it and just put it aside!
thanx

The 10000 are approx 2 7/16" inside to inside of the side plates and 3 5/8" outside width, the 7000 is approx 2 1/8" inside and 3 5/16" outside.
The 10000 is approx 5/16" wider.
The side plate diameters are close to 3" for the 10000 and 2 3/4" for the 7000., here's photos of the 2 side by side,

That chrome 10,000CL looks great.  Is it a newer or older model than the 10,000 with the black sideplates?

The 8000C we're more familiar with here in the UK is a narrow version of the 9000C (the photo below is the pair I have which I've used to fish for small tunas in the past), but the red 9000C in the photo above looks to be the same width as the regular 9000.

The reel seat No. of the chrome 10000 is 02-01-04. I have never been sure about the many numbering systems used by ABU - possibly 02 - Designed 1992, 01 - revised once & 04 - manufactured 1994???). I think I read somewhere the chrome 10000 & 9000 models were made for the Japan market but again I could be wrong.
