Title: Not taking rod orders anymore
Post by: Newell Nut on December 12, 2018, 07:30:13 PM
As we all age we have to shuffle our priorities around. Just before I turn 70 I will take possession of a new Dusky 252 Tournament style CC. I have about 800 reef numbers to explore and a pile of nice rods and reels. Plan to fish weekdays only and leave the crowded weekend boat ramps to those that still work for a living. Boat ramps can be a challenge on weekends. Boat should be ready in April if all goes well in the shop. So until then I will be in the gym pumping iron. ;D

Yes Alan, a new phase. All my life I have fished other boats and schedules. Just want to fish peacefully with no schedule issues and enjoy what time I have left. Boat name is Stress Free.

Boat owners are never stress free, but on the other hand being on your own schedule makes it stress free.  Dominick

Congradulation's welcome to the good life.

I will give you a tip for saving your Boat.

Print a tag on both side that say's   PLUG IN  and have it covered in plastic and put it on the ring of your Boat keys.
you would be suprised how many Boaters rush to the ramp and forget to put the plug in and come back to the ramp with the water line half way up the hull.

I spent 5 years working the Boat ramp in Boca Raton FL after I retired and moved to FL, and it happened more often then you would imagine.

No , we don't want him gone yet, he has to enjoy that boat for a long time to come.
I hate to fly, but don't mind driving, maybe I'll pay him a visit one day.

Thanks for that tip and it is being built without a plug per Dusky advice. ;D

Al is having serious health problems and he does not think he can make it on a CC but hoping to on a slick day.

Hey Sal

Not that far buddy. Boat supposed to be ready in April and then a lot of play time getting my Loran numbers converted in the Lowrance. You don't have to pull anchor either.  ;D Installing a Motor Guide GPS trolling motor. Anchor is just a backup. Will keep you posted as progress goes.

The latest off the lathe is my personal grouper rod for the new boat which will also double as a trolling rod. Built on a Rainshadow Stubby 50 with Alps butt and rollers. Most people lose big bottom fish because they play tug of war with the fish the first few seconds and then they are cut off. I am getting plenty of rod holders on both sides of the boat and this rod will rest in a forward holder with a circle hook and live boat on the bottom. When the fish hooks itself I am going crank like crazy and leave the rod in the holder. Sal may recognize the reel.

Mr. Universe, I do not remember that reel. I do remember putting one together for you, but that was a long time ago.
Looks like that boat will be well equipped.
Go ahead and break it in, I have a couple of tools I would like to try on some giant grouper some day....I'll pay for gas :)

Sal,

Once I get a bunch of my Loran numbers converted and dialed in tight I will let you know. Grouper season opens May 1. Funny thing for me personally is that I have always caught my biggest ones in April. You are only a one day drive away. Long day drive.

One of the nice things about Kayaks, never a line at the launch, can launch almost anywhere, and you rarely get another Kayaker getting drunk and trying to run you over to get in your spot!

Retirement is great.
You can leave dock when you want to and return home when you feel like it.
Enjoy! Well deserved.
Since retired, first thing I do when I wake up is check the weather and surf conditions. And then check it again before I go to sleep. 👍🏼👍🏼
