Quote from: Crab Pot on Today at 12:18:11 AMGot all my parts today to build my 2.5 Senator (as I'm calling it) but the inner rings were wrong.

Good news though....Jason, I found the 30-99 stand you sent me!

(Minor miracle, if you'd seen my garage you'd be impressed)

I'm glad. That was my only one. I figured you were the type to be able to put this one together and it wouldn't go to waste. I'm glad I guessed correctly, I was just off by a few months.

Quote from: MACflyer on May 06, 2024, 04:20:16 PMWOW! That is one gorgeous red reel. Hope to see the finished product soon. Any luck finding a reinforced eccentric jack?

thanks amigo, I found one used but in great shape a reinforced eccentric jack on my miscellaneous parts box while looking for some screws of different sizes for another reel, the 114h eccentric jack was dirty but it cleaned up really good and I used the buffer wheel a bit with the dremel to give it some shine

A Penn International 955

An Abu 7000 (Bought with the intention of magging)

An Abu 5500

A Daiwa Millionaire

A Mitchell 300. This was given to me, and it was dirty, somewhat stiff, and the eccentric spring had slipped. As a result, I picked up a Mitchell 301 at an antique store to use as a parts reel just in case. As it turns out no parts were needed, and once it was cleaned up and serviced, it was actually smoother than the 300 I was given. A nice find for $5.00.

Tools and Lubricants / Glad for Amazon!
Last post by foakes - May 06, 2024, 11:59:15 PM
7 years ago, I was needing a mid-sized chain saw since there was a need to drop, remove, and process around 110 Ponderosa Pines that were beetle-killed and a fire hazard as well as a falling issue.

Had a Stihl 460 with a 36" bar, plus a little Stihl 170 with a 16" bar.

Found a Stihl 036 with a 28" bar on CL.  Checked starting, cranking compression, general condition.  It was a solid saw.  Paid $300.  Picked up a couple of new square chisel cut skip chains, spark plugs, air filters.

Got it home, cut steadily well for a week, or so —- then it wouldn't start.

Narrowed it down to a lack of spark —- then narrowed it further to a faulty magneto.  Called the local Stihl Ace Hardware —- a Stihl magneto was $132!

Checked on Amazon, China manufactured magneto was $18 with over 2000 5 star ratings.  Ordered it, it arrived 2 days later, installed it —- started better than it ever had before.

Adjusted carb settings and low & high idle and run screws.

It has cut over 80 cords of wood.  Not one issue.

5 months ago, a neighbor gave me a Husqvarna 145BT backpack blower that had set out for a Winter.

Finally got around to putting it up on the bench last Thursday.  Compression was good, cleaned the air filter, wiped off the crud, poured gas mix in the tank.  It came out the bottom of the carb as fast as it could.

OK, checked the carb —- the return gas line was off the tank, and the primer-bulb was cracked completely.

Checked on Amazon again —- could have bought the parts possibly needed separately, plus a new spark plug —- would run around $42.  That sounded OK, but there is always something that is missed when doing these kind of repairs.

So I look a little further down the Amazon page —- and find a complete new carburetor, gasket, (2) primer bulbs, a full gas line kit with a filter and a spare, plus a new spark plug —- for $15.95 with nearly 1000 4.5 to 5 star ratings.  Ordered it, free shipping scheduled to be here tomorrow, showed up a day early.

The Husqvarna kit was 8 times this price —- and it was also made in Asia by Kawasaki, as is this one.

Should work.  I will report in a few days.  If not, no big deal.  Worth a shot.

Best, Fred

I'm having a problem with an International 975CS. The problem is that the spool has started to slip occasionally when reeling under tension, as well as the handle not disengaging on a cast. This allows the handle to spin during the cast. It also has begun to over run when I spin the handle and suddenly stop it. However, I understand that this is not uncommon with the Internationals. But I'd like it to stop. A little history on the reel: It was an auction site purchase, and admittedly I was pretty much duped, as the reel was cosmetically OK, but a bit of a train wreck mechanically. There were parts that were missing, as well as parts that didn't belong, as well as being generally dirty. I got a hold of the schematic, and all the foreign parts were tossed(these were mainly weird washers on top of the drag stack), and any missing parts were replaced. The only worn parts seemed to be the trip ratchet and drag washers. After a complete breakdown and cleaning, the reel seemed to functioning as it should, until gradually the problem with the spool slipping, and the handle not disengaging crept in. I have taken it apart, and compared it with the schematic several times, and am 100% confident that all the parts are correct and in their proper place. I have disassembled and reassembled with a lot of grease, and have also done so with little grease, and have the same result. The only thing I have noticed was a little flat spot on the little nub on the shift arm. Not sure if that would cause this. So, I'm just wondering if anyone can offer any advice as to what's going wrong here, or clue me in to something I may be overlooking? Or would I be better off sending it to Penn for a complete overhaul? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I'd hate to give up on this one, as when it works properly, it's a cannon of a caster.

I have yet to fish my T60XN. Mine is silver frame, black spool and red side plates... I also have the 3/0 and 4/0 XN reels in same colors... I've fished both of those and they preformed as you would expect. Caught my first Yellow tail on the 4/0 XN... a 25# fish.
