Does anyone know anything about an Ambassadeur 1000 baitcaster (eg. years they were made, value, etc.)? My wife found one & bought it for me at a garage sale for $8.00. It looks vintage, works great, & just needs a good cleaning, which I am in the process of doing. I have never seen one before, & was surprised at how narrow the spool is - never seen a spool this narrow.
Any/all replies are appreciated....
Thanks,
Dennis
$8 for a working Abu..I'll take a pallet load. Probably worth $30-50 depending on condition. I believe they were made in the 70's, no later than mid-late 80's as I got mine around 1985 and it was used, then. Still use for spinnerbaits, it's a slick little reel and great for bass fishing or where you don't need a ton of line. I expect their demise came with the advent of the 4500 width Ambassadeur. Very similar characteristics.
Hey thor !! Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I was proud of her, mainly because she does not like to haggle on prices. I asked her to offer the guy $5, but she just couldn't do that - LOL. But, she did offer the $8 & got it for that (I've been schooling her on how to tell if there might be something wrong with it & pricing - she's learning quickly), & like you, I told her I would take as many of these as she can find - as well as most other Ambassadeurs or . I am not planning on selling it, was just curious on what it might be worth. It really does seem like a slick little reel & I look forward to trying it out this weekend - although I live in Tennessee, I am on schooling bass on Wheeler Lake in Alabama, so we'll see how it works.
Thanks again for your help!
Dennis

now thats a pretty old reel
I would clean it and put it on my desk, it would be cool to use it, but I prefer modern reels for light lines
ahhhhh.!!!!! not sure I've seen a silver one. Mine's red; will get a pic up.
OK, thor, steelfish & Indy....after over 2 months, finally finished with the Ambassadeur 1000 (other priorities showed their ugly heads). After thorough cleaning & lubing, I would love to post a few pics, but can't figure out how. Can one of you tell me how?
Thanks,
Dennis
Wait a minute guys, I guess I did know how. Here's a couple more of the Amb. 1000 - I think she's a beauty !

And more.....
Very nice. I don't know as you could say rare, but definitely not common especially in silver.
No thor, I don't think it's rare either. But, still think it's a beaut, so gonna leave it on the shelf for now, unless of course I decide I need a spare in the boat....you just never know. ;D

I'm telling you, they fish very well.
I'd just string it up and go fishing! It seems a waste to set it in a shelf and just look at it from time to time! There's fish out there ready to give it a workout!
cool little reels. come in silver red and black. also come in a 2000 size - wider. I have a few somewhere. i'll have to get one out, clean, lube & fish. thanks for posting!
