Title: 112 H rebuild
Post by: Reel 224 on April 10, 2018, 07:50:55 PM
Well I finally got around to rebuilding the 112h Randy had sent me The whole reel was sent to me with all the parts assembled, but I wanted to change the gear ratio and install SS gear sleeve and pinion also five stack and SS dog. That was done on the bench today. I did not take pictures of the step by step my hands were grease covered and Ruth was out, besides other guys are better at that then I am at taking a series of pictures. So here is the finished product.

Very solid reel Joe.....I'm a huge fan of the narrow 112H......this reel wants to go fishing !!

Ted: It is going fishing after the problems I had hot roding it> the SS dog was real pain to stay in place.

Joe,

Great looking reel and nice job on the re-build.

But I have NO idea of the differences between a 501 vs. your 112H Narrow -

can someone chime in and bring me up to speed on the difference - Compare and Contrast.

Thanks.

Wayne

It's easy Wayne.  One is a Senator and the other is a Jigmaster. Got it?

Anytime brother!  :D

Wayne: The 112H is a 3/0 Senator, the internals are much like the Jig Master. That reel is the narrow the Randy sold a short time ago. It still holds a lot of line and good for trolling or casting live bait or bottom fishing with Bunker sections or sand worm,Clam. Also rigging for Black Drum.

Basically the 112H is a heaver duty reel then the Jig Master 500,501,and 99.

That all depends on which Jigmaster you're comparing it to Joe.
If you're comparing it to Tom's Jigmaster kit and Prochallenger's guts, the Jigmaster is a stronger reel.
By the way, Cortez Conversions Classic JIGMASTER, is the smoothes kit out there, well to me anyway.

Nice build with that reel Joe.

I like the dark blue too Joe. Something different for a change.

Randy's extra narrow does make a sweet piece. I'm stoked for the 6/0 that's coming! ;)

Sal: I didn't want to start a pissing contest about one over the other, but I'm more then happy that Randy sent me this 112H 3/0 T3N narrow Tib kit with all the Penn 99% stock plate's in beautiful condition. I just added some up grades to sort of up it a little.

Thanks Sal for the "nice build with that reel" I appreciate it.

No pissing contest Joe, you claimed the 112h customized is a stronger reel than the Jigmaster and I disagreed, that's all.

Good job on the 112H Joe.  The 112 was the first Penn I ever bought for myself and will always be my favorite....you took it another step....well a Big Leap, forward.....Bill

Thank you Bill. I had to shorten the spacer for the drag adjustment was to tight at first, it seems that the five stack is to high in the main gear. It needs a little deeper main gear to accommodate the five stack. Those gears run as smooth as silk and shifting is always positive. I defiantly like the 112H in that stile with the Tib kit. This is my first but it won't be the last.
