I lost my pics here a few months ago because I had uploaded them from my desktop, so I thought I would resubmit them.
If I could only have a few reels, this would be one.
Shimano released the Triton Mark 1 and 2 in 1982.
One thing different about this reel is the working drag washer which is under the main gear.
Anyhow, I will post the pics and they can tell the rest of the story. I like mine also but I don't have a big use for it anymore. When you post pictures then I remember I have it. It was either a Farther's Day or Birthday Gift back then.
Mike
Wow! great gift. Mine was a gift also. All the way from USA a couple of years ago. I was fortunate enough to find and buy a Mark 2 recently.
Nice reel!! I have never seen one. Thanks for posting.
John
A thing of beauty.
Very nice,
I think a stainless gear sleeve and 6 lobed drag would make it perfect.

Yes, I don`t know what the sleeve is made of, but this one and my Mark 2 gear sleeve show no signs of distortion.
The drag is better now with a carbontex upgrade, and probably adequate for a reel this size.

Thanks for posting! Classy looking reel, i've never seen one before.
Sweet reel !!!
John
Heard rumours of them back in the day but none made it here-Thanks for posting!
A friend of mine has one, if you ever decide to get rid of it hit me up!
Awesome, I (like many here) haven't seen one either! Do you use it? What pound braid are you running? Thanks for sharing.
Simply "WOW". :o
Look at its condition and state! Surely a collectors piece???
Hi Guys
Dan, that is pe4 Sunline braid, but in the 4-5 years that I have had it, I have never used it. The only thing non stock on it is a bearing that I replaced where there was a bushing. I, of course kept the bushing.

Hi Slazmo
This is my Mark 2 (just a bit wider)
I had to make a handle for it. Was from an early TLD 15/30. About an hour with some fine diamond files. Yes, the Mark 2 sleeve was wider than the 15/30 sleeve.(http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a601/george8322/WHOLE_zpspyiokbf9.jpg)

Hi Basto,
Can the posts for the rod clamp come off or are they permanent?
Cheers,
Ruffy
They are forever posts. Not made to be removed. I had the posts removed from my reel. Wish I didn't do it.
Mike
and the rod clamp is alloy.

Thanks Basto.. these were made until at least 1987.
And another note...the clamp from a Newell 332 fits exactly the same.

good to know about the Newell clamp. I think it would be a stronger design.
Well, I cannot figure out how these darn reels work. I think when the gear sleeve turns it's supposed to release the push button, but it appears stuck in the down position...? All parts are there on the set plate.
Edit: Removed my rambling about an issue that disappeared as soon as the reel was assembled properly.
Have you tried rotating the sleeve to a different position so the kick pins are in placed differently?
Might pay to take it apart right down to the retractors and rebuild it again.
Sorry, can`t help anymore than this. I have never had a problem with mine after cleaning and rebuilding.
Basto
Thanks Basto for the reply.
I have two set plates, identical, and in good condition. I have the same result on either. I cannot find a position that causes both levers to trip at the same time. The first lever trips as the pin rotates along it, and then jams. It's got me talking to myself....
1/15/17 Edit: Again, removed rambling explanation of my reels troubles that were solved by installing a missing piece.
Randy,
If no one else in Cali can help you with this.
Send it to me.
No guarantees, but I will do my best.
Daron
Wanted to update. Got all my 'Mark's' working. I literally worked on them all day. Took them apart over and over until I figured out why the one worked, but the others did not.
Turns out that various parts were missing, which solved the problem with the one I was messing with earlier in this thread.
I scrounged around and found squidder drags that fit perfect, so took care of that too.
One had a dog that was intermittent of and on for about an hour. Tearing down and reassembling was getting pretty tiring.
And the last one was assembled completely from parts which I had stashed for a few months.
Thanks go out to Jay (Fishgrain) and Doug (JDL) for coming up with the odd parts.
Glad to hear you got it sorted. When that happens to me, I don`t sleep well.
Basto
Thanks Basto,
On the reel I actually had left the metal washer that goes on the sleeve first, under the gear, off by accident. ::) Part # 26. That's what happens when you start, then stop, throw everything in a bag because something else came up. I knew I had all the drag parts, so when I dumped them out again to work on the reel, I ASSumed I had them all. The missing washer was still in the bag! When I again returned to the schematic yesterday in frustration, I had my 'doh!' moment. ::)
Going on to the second reel I discovered it was missing there also! I had purchased the reel and never worked on it. I found that substituting an old brass Jigmaster keyed washer fit the sleeve shaft well. It held the dog down properly without interfering with any other works. It had a very slightly smaller diameter than the stainless JM one.
I wish I had decided to go back and look at the schematic much earlier. Very humbling to say the least.
But, I can literally put these together in my sleep now. ;D
Glad you finally got it sorted Randy.
There is no better Satisfaction than doing it yourself and know its done right. ;)
Well, circumstances make this collectible expendable. So it's going to be put in the for sale thread.
Thought I would mention it here first for the people that admire these old Shimano's.
Just sharing photos of my two : Mark ! & Mark 2 , which have only been used in freshwater ;D

I was looking at the stainless AT gear sleeves that are flat sided all the way to the ratchet like this mark 1 sleeve is and I remember a mate telling me that a 3/0 Senator drag washer is a very close fit on the mark 1 sleeve.
I got a 3/0 metal and tried it on my mark 1 sleeve. Just needed a few strokes on the inside flat areas with a diamond file and fits nicely.
Food for thought!
To be continued.
Basto
Thanks Mr. B. Good information, these are very solid reels and that gearsleeve will help make it even better for a long term of heavy use.
Thanks for you sharing. :-*
