Title: Silaflex 960?
Post by: Christopher M Songer on November 19, 2018, 01:46:22 PM
Garage sale find, bought the Shimano Triton 100GT in need of cleaning on the rod for $10. Reel is great after servicing. Just not interested in the rod as it had a broken guide. But I could not leave it alone and replaced the guide and put a reel on it that needed testing. The 90+ y/o gentleman said he used it to troll for walleye. The rod is 6 ft and pretty stiff for what I am use to on Erie for walleye or Lake Ontario for salmon.
The reel seat had a piece that looks out of place. May not be in the original configuration but have not seen any like this.
The blank extend thought the end of the handle butt. Did it every have a cap?
Can anyone tell me what this type rod is best used for?
Browning Silaflex 960- model  972960
length 6'
Wts 8.8oz/250gm
Line 10 to 25lbs,
Lures 3/8 to 1 oz.
Thanks and tight lines.

I'd guess Bass baitcaster w/ metal trigger straightened to sit in a holder, for trolling (silly, IMHO)

It might just be a shim to tighten up the reel seat.

I tend to agree with philaroman that that is a trigger straightened out.

too short/stiff for trolling; ruined for rod's intended purpose; still, good glass / great deal
