Title: 109 free spool question.
Post by: usncporet on July 06, 2012, 04:27:12 AM
Just got my first 109 today. It is very dirty, gummed up and in general need of some TLC! My question is, is the spool and levelwind supposed to freespool as do my 209 and 309's without the handle turning? I see the internal works are quite a bit different between the 109 and 209-309. The handle on the 109 turns with spool when the lever is in the freespool position. This just doesnt seem right. Likeable little reel and it shoud clean up just fine, i'm just not sure about how it operates. Help me please....

Mine does the same. I recently read somewhere here that the steelhead fisherman like it that way for head reels

Thank you Bryan. I also recall reading that here but couldn't find it again.
EDIT - Pays to read the owner's manual. And a big thank-you to Scott's Bait and Tackle!
"The 109's handle turns when casting or letting out line".
