Title: Consensus on ceramic bearings?
Post by: baitsauce on November 03, 2014, 01:55:08 PM
What is the general consensus on ceramic bearings?  Especially in a Abu 6501.  Worth it or not?  How about for use in the salt?  Lube or not?

I use a lot of ceramic hybrids on my baitcasters and beach casters. They do cast further. In the salt, or not, I lube with TSI301 or equivalent. Full ceramic bearings (cage and balls) there is no point - nothing to corrode  :) Boca Bearings currently have a sale (%25 off) orange seal bearings ;)

I see no use for full ceramic bearings unless you are doing competition casting. I use the orange seal ABEC 7 ceramic hybrid in some of the guys baitcasters and other smaller reels. Use only a tiny bit of oil b/c the oil really slows them down. After assembling the reel I will spin the spool with compressed air. It really helps in more freespool. Too much in most cases.
