I must be a boring guy because I love trolling.  To me trolling is like watching a baseball game.  It is relaxing with an underlying tension that something big is getting ready to explode.  When the fish hit it is all action whether it's your turn on the rod or clearing the lines. Very exciting.  I'm getting worked up thinking about it.  I'll be down in Cabo in June.  We need a salivating emoticon.  :D Dominick

Trolling is 75% of my fishing. It used to be more but spending so much money on fuel was getting to me. We now deep drop after a couple of hours of trolling to bring home some meat. We have been very successful with Snowy Grouper, Golden Tilefish, and other deep sea fishes..

The last trolling on LR trip I was on was at Clarian and we rarely got 200 yards without a double or triple on wahoo.

Catching fish is never boring.

I'm with the trollers half and the bait soakers the other half.

Trolling covers ground when you are not sure where the fish are. Especially covering water for everything from Albacore to Blue Marlin etc that are widely dispersed in an otherwise apparently featureless expanse of blue water.

But my roots are soaking for trout and mooching for salmon. The faintest twitch (that is usually only a squid/kingfish/sandab pecking at the bait) keeps me entertained for hours as a 25lb salmon pecks at the bait the same way. Mooching for Salmon and soaking Power Bait at the lake are pretty much the same, just a bigger lake lol.

Only when I know the area I am fishing over is dead do I get bored.  ;D

But I'd rather get them by casting...see my "goofy hat"?

I agree Alan.  When the fishing gets slow and we have to go on the troll to find them, I just want to go to sleep until it's time to break out the jigs and plugs again! 8)
Unless I can cast it out and make that fish bite and feel that strike I don't even care to reel it in. :P

our new trolling speed is 16 knots...its the boats most efficient speed and we always have somewhere to head to (birds, jigging, surf spot etc.), so we adapted.
we cover more ground now, and we get more hookups doing it... a lot of lures don't like that speed, but you gotta find the ones that do.
think about it... pelagics...we're hunting the fastest swimming fish in the sea... if the flying fish are always passing you, you're going too slow, and waves are going un-ridden  :D

I've caught a lot of Pelagics high-speed trolling, but it just depends on the conditions.  Sometimes covering ground and looking for reaction strikes is effective.  Other times, you've got to be willing to adapt and modify techniques based on features, currents, or sea conditions.  I've caught a lot of fish at high speeds... wahoo, Stripers and Blues, Ahi, and others.  Sometimes a big fish will come streaking across from afar to explode on a fast moving bait.  Makos have a habit of quick acrobatics when hitting a high speed bait too.  Good fun!
