Title: Fishing Reel Parts
Post by: JDL on March 19, 2015, 04:43:11 PM
Good Morning to all,

We have been watching this forum for some time and we have several customers that use us that are active members of this forum.   The latest was rowdyw - Rudy - who was in our office yesterday and we thank him for mentioning us.  We are the owners of JDL Treasures, LLC.  My name is Doug and my partner (my beautiful wife) is Jennifer.  We have 2 domain names http://usedreelparts.com/ and http://platinumreelparts.com/.  We have owned and run this company since 2010 together and have made a decision to sell on the ebay platform.   As some people or a lot of people do not like ebay - there are millions that love it.   It is expensive to sell on the site BUT it does make buying and selling much more secure than a regular website.   If you visit our store you will see that we are committed to the platform since we are just shy of 16,000 listings.  This message is not just to promote us but to explain who we are, what we have done and why we do what we do.   I have owned and operated a telecom business for the past 23 years - you will see if you go on our site not just reel parts but telephone equipment as well.  Jenn was working in advertising and with an online college before we started JDL.  We got into Coins, Antiques and Collectibles until we got the fishing bug and began to sell rods and reels.  I am a life long boater so the introduction into the rod and reel business was just a natural.   After realizing that there was no way to buy old parts for discontinued reels that we broken and could not be repaired, we began to develop where we are right now.   Today we have 40,000 active items and we have just purchased 250,000 Penn, Shimano & Daiwa new parts.  We have heard from some that are prices are too high.  Well it is really hard to price out items that are no longer available and there is no "book" on what parts are worth.  This is another reason we have decided to stay with ebay.  We offer the "best offer" option on EVERY listing!!   We do not mean to offend ANYONE and are willing to listen to any reasonable offers or conversations.  We are very good at what we do and I have personally taken apart almost EVERY model of reel that we have in stock!!  But that does not mean that we are perfect.  We have made some errors and we WILL stand behind what we sell.  We have 3 people working for us now and we all take great pride in what we do and what we sell.   My wife and I have 3 daughters and this business is our ONLY job.  We work 16 - 18 hours a day as this is our ONLY source of income.  We are here for ALL and will work as hard as we can for ALL that would like our assistance.   We thank you for the time on the forum and PLEASE if you have any questions - do not hesitate to contact us.   Thank you again.

By the way, if I send you a list of shimano part numbers, would you be able to look to see if you have the parts (new or used)?

We also have

But since most of our inventory has turned to new we will be moving over to the Platinum reel parts.   JDL Treasures, LLC is our corporate name.   Attached are some picks of what we are working on and our warehouse

Bryan,

Thank you for the nice comment.   You can send me the list BUT We have not a clue what are in these boxes.  We have been working on Shimano this week - Penn last week and this is just crazy.  Everything is marked BUT not in any order.   We have 1 guy that is listing almost all day and he is 1000's of listing behind.   We are listing EVERY part with a part number to make it easier to find so if you go to our home page and type in the RD, BNT, TT or TGT number - Just remember it is 4 or 5 digits after the letters including leading zeros it will come up if we have them.   Let me know if I can do anything else for you.

Welcome aboard.

I've had problems with the wrong parts being sent and your people arguing about it (the parts have numbers and it's obvious) but I will say you are 100% honest and a very good source of hard to get parts.

Keta,

Like I said in my first post we are not always perfect - most the of the time we are BUT we do mess up and if we do WILL ALWAYS address it.  Sorry if you had something wrong.  We do get in a ton of reels that have the wrong parts on them believe it or not and that is usually where the problem will start.   Again always here if you need anything or need some assistance.  I answer everything myself at this point in time so there are very few issues!!   Thanks again.

These guys run a straight up business and the Newell Nut has a large stock of their parts. Have you kept a tally of how much you have shipped to Port Orange, FL? Now you know who I am. Got more on the way today right?
I offer what I think is a fair price for both parties and it is always accepted and shipping quickly.

Dwight,

Yes more on the way today and THANK YOU as always!!  Unfortunately Newell parts are going to take a back seat for awhile.  Prices on reels are getting crazy and we are buried down here with Penn Shimano and Daiwa.  Anytime you are south - you are welcome to come by.  That goes for anyone that comes and visits SUNNY WARM Florida.   We are where the water is warm and the water is clear!!!

I buy parts for the what ifs of other people. I have never had a Newell failure and probably never will. When I get too old to fish I will just put your parts back on ebay or sell them back to you at a bargain. ;D

Recently ordered a NOS spool from JDL Treasures on EBay. Unfortunately , when it arrived it was obviously a used spool in a NOS box. E-mailed Doug and explained the situation, and with-in minutes he responded and had pulled the last remaining spool he personally inspected and verified it was new.

I had offered to send back the first one and exchange, his response was to just keep it and he's sending the new one right out. Customer service doesn't get much better than that!  -GB

Unfortunately we have our oops moments.  We do our best but if we make a mistake we will always correct the issue.  We have 3 people that work for us and are for sure in the learning curve of the business.  We are trying to recoup  some of the money that we spent on this parts lot so we have all hands on deck.  We have a lot going on and the 18 hour days take a toll on all of us!!  We stand behind our company and our products better than ANYONE - period!!  Thanks to all again!!

Wow, I did not see this thread until now.

I can say I have never had an issue with JDL, and I order a lot of stuff from them.  Quick, accurate and just what I needed within a couple of days.

Now if I could just get a new 30-970.......

My experience was far less than satisfying, wrong part sent and rude refusal to acknowledge it even though the numbers stamped in the part were obvious. I never got the hard to find bearing from them but got my $ back so they are not thieves.  I am glad to hear they are working for others.

It happens - we are only human.  We all make mistakes.

Yes we have grown substantially.  IF we were able to list EVERY part we had here - we would be the WORLDS largest parts dealer with the MOST diverse inventory period.   Once we have everything listed we will have parts from:

PENN
SHIMANO
NEWELL
DAIWA
ZEBCO
ABU
MITCHELL
JOHNSON
RYOBI
EAGLE CLAW
PFLUEGER
DAM QUICK
FIN NOR
SHAKESPEARE
TRUE TEMPER
QUANTUM
OCEAN CITY
OKUMA
AND OTHERS

AND AN INVENTORY OF 1,000,000 PARTS.

It is very clear that we have made a strong lifetime commitment to the fishing business and will be here growing each day and supplying the parts to repair every reel possible.

Thank you

I have bought hard to find parts from you in the past. All were bought with the make an offer option. I have only had one time the wrong part was sent. I contacted your business and was also argued with at first. You did make it right and I ended up receiving the right part in the end. I also always look carefully at the pictures in the listing. I have seen missing teeth on gears etc.  I know its hard for you to inspect every part you have on sale so I try to check them as best as I can before buying.
We all make mistakes but you do seem to be an honest seller.

I was looking for a couple of older style 24-155 handles with torpedo paddles to replace the newer style 24-155 handles with flat rubber paddles for a couple of my MAG 10 reels.  They weren't easy to find but I ran across a couple (a red one and a yellow one) at JDL.  I ordered them and things went smoothly.  Here's the result.

Away from a computer right now but the quick look that I made it looks like the information was looked up from Scott's site which is wrong.  They have the 31-700 fitting a 700z - does not exist - and a 704z. Since  we have 1,000,000 plus parts I have people doing listings and looking up parts if I saw it I would have corrected that and it should be corrected in scotts as well. The 31-700 fits the 700 and 704 all non z. I will look to see if we have the correct one in stock when I get home later and if so will send to you. Also will correct listing. So anyone who reads this should note the error. Not sure where Scott's gets thier info from but it is incorrect.  Not putting down Scott's at all as he has a great site so no one take it that way. It might be a penn direct error but since many use his site for information  - including us - just don't want anyone to buy them thinking it will fit the z reels. We all make mistakes and that is why we all help each other. Thanks.

They saved the day on an expensive Shimano spinning reel. Shimano only supports their spinning parts for a few years.

I'm not pointing fingers. I just know I got the incorrect part.
Scott's provides a valuable service to us all.
This is for reference only. They can't be held liable for incorrect parts being sold, unless it is from them.
I am not upset, I just want the correct bail screws that I ordered.
I apologize for any trouble.

Post by: JDL on November 20, 2016, 01:15:10 AM
Was not pointing fingers either just stated where the information came from and understand that they are wrong. Your schematic does show 31-704 and not 31-700. So that is one issue.  The other is as you state we are not holding anyone liable but ourselves and not blaming anyone.  What I said was that I did not see the error but when I looked into it I see where the error came from. As I also said we all help each other so that is the reason I pointed it out so that it does not happen again.   If we make an error we will gladly admit it no problem as I have done already here.  If you check you ebay messages you will see that we have already responded to you there as well and will be sending you 2 more that we have right now.  I can not be more clear that I am not holding anyone one liable but us.  Simply pointing out that under 31-700 they DO NOT fit a 700z - does not exist or a 704z. They are not even on those schematics.  So if anyone is looking at them for those reels do not purchase them - they will not fit.

I am a very very hands on business owner.  I oversee our entire operation from start to finish 18 hours a day 5 days a week and 10 hours a day over the weekend.  I have said before - errors do happen.  We find them every day on shimano site ereplacements site and our own site.  Does not matter how big or small you are - mistakes happen.  It is the way it is handled that matters.  We sold 4000 parts last month and we have very few errors with the amount of items that go in and out but if and when we do - they are handled immediately and correctly. That will always be the case no matter what.  I get emails daily about parts that are supposed to fit a reel and do not because of a design change as well as errors on the web etc.  when we can help make the fishing world a better place we will - I.e. 31-700 does not fit a 700z or 704z!  That is what we do.  We are not just about making a profit - if you come to our office you will see we are a close nit bunch that work very hard for everyone not just ourselves.
Title: Re: Fishing Reel Parts

And as stated - scotts site is used by many and all including us - it is a valuable resource for penn.  if you notice our 28000 listings - most of them have reel models that they fit because we take the time to research every part. If they do not have a reel model - it's because we do not have a schematic or can not find it.  We have about 10,000 schematics that we have collected form every manufactuere but we do not have them all. We could put up listings and have 50,000 up by now if we did not do that but again - it's not about the money - it's about helping people get what they need.   We take the time - we are here for the long run - sorry errors happen - but they will be corrected

Morning - I know the e**y word is not a very friendly word on this site and we struggle with credibility daily - one of the reasons we joined this site so you all knew who we were and what we do and that we were a REEL business - pun intended!!  As I have stated in the past few posts - we have a firm commitment to our business and the fishing community.  We have spent $1000.00's in the past few months gearing up for our Amazon Launch which happened a few weeks ago.   We will also be in Q1/Q2 next year launching our own site - need to save up the funds and winter is not the time to do that!!  Each online marketplace has its own set of issues so we are only able to bring partial inventory over to Amazon - its freakin expensive!!  This post is NOT to sell our stuff but I know that some hate the e-word and will not buy there so now you do have another choice.   We will let you know when we have our site up.  It will NOT be just a selling tool - we WILL develop it with the intention of helping the repair and parts business.   We have 10,000 plus schematic for every off brand on the planet.  Survive outdoor had an amazing array of schematic - one of the most on the net, but we have stuff they do not which is what we will be focusing on.  Anyway - thanks for all the support from those who use us as we continue to become bigger and better.

Scott's site which is wrong.  They have the 31-700 fitting a 700z - does not exist - and a 704z.

Not sure who went in and stuck Z on the 700 references for models that fit, but that was incorrect. Looks like they did it in a couple of parts...I have to go back and fix it.

Penn started subbing the 31-700 from the older 700 and 704 reels to the newer 31-704 at some point.

Can't go in the other direction and use the 31-700 on the Z reels.

you got any parts for my shimano tsm 2, it's missing something here? I don't have the schematics or manual so I don't even know what's missing. I also need the rod clamp and bolts.

on the 2nd picture does that look normal with the spring exposed like that, plus that star does not turn, I think it suppose to be able to turn to adjust the drag tension. I haven't taken it apart yet so possibly something froze or rusted out inside. other than that the reel works fine.

please help!

Sorry I did not see your message.  Usually I get notified if there is a message but missed this one.  Here is the schematic for your reel if you did not find one already

http://www.nutterrodandreel.com/pdf/Shimano/1988/tsm%20II%20fs.PDF

Looks like you are missing

TGT
0180
0181
0182
0183
Possibly
0184
0185

The star drag DOES look right but if it does not move - then most likely frozen.   Look at the schematic where the star drag goes - there are SEVERAL parts there that make that up as well.

If I can help - let me know - thank you

I have been very satisfied.  4 for 4 in transactions at a fair price.  Thank you!

I discovered JDL recently and ordered a used reel part from them that worked out very well and their shipping was pretty quick. I have a want list of stuff on their site.

In fact I just sent them an email that I was looking for some Shimano centrifugal braking weights.

I agree 100%. JDL has helped me keep my beloved shimano round reels still working like new after 20 years. And the service AND prices are always top notch.
