Title: Cheaters Seldom Prosper
Post by: Midway Tommy on October 02, 2022, 03:19:09 AM
I would have said never but we have 550 of them in DC that always seem to come out smelling like roses.

Unbelievably appalling! Be aware, though, that if you watch any of the videos the language is pretty rank! A lot of F-Bombs flying around. I've heard of things like this but never thought I would see living proof. These two guys may end up on the missing persons list like Jimmy Hoffa!  :o

I just saw this on another fishing forum and was gonna post it, ya beat me to it.
I'm very very surprised the crowd did not beat them, drown them and then piss on them.

Supposedly just last year those guys won over $300K and a boat.

We've had more than 1 person get caught with their salmon stuffed full of ice. They claim it musta went down the throat after they put the fish in the ice chest. Money and greed is the root of all evil

$300K and a boat? It would be worth it to grow your own lead-free jumbo walleyes at home and pick them up on tournament day.

Back in my Scuba Days I actually found one of those and Released the Black Bass  and inserted some Rocks .
They could have won the Rock Bass Tournament if they had one that day .

If information I read is correct their winnings from the previous year's win were revoked because one of them failed a lie detector test.
Title: Re: Cheaters Seldom Prosper
Post by: Maxed Out on October 02, 2022, 05:48:01 PM
They stopped doing lie detector tests for our derbies. Mainly because that test is not admissible in a court of law

Karma gets them eventually. One local derby cheater I knew had bad things happen after winning the derby and claiming a bonus prize for catching it on Silver Horde gear. Just one day after the derby, him and his dad were having a burger in our bar and he made it a point to tell me he caught his winning fish on a whole herring. Wow, the greedy guy just won 10 grand, then lied about his gear to get another $500. Bad Karma has followed this guy ever since. Went from a winner, to a loser in an instant

Anywhere that they list their sponsors?  I would have to think those would be the people that are really shamefaced right now.  These guys; face it they are probably banned from a local bluegill tournament at this point.  Their sponsors however are probably trying to figure out how to navigate the next year or so...damn good thing these guys weren't on the Jurelometer Pro Staff. - john

That's why I quit fishing bass tournaments back in the late 90's. Mostly club tournaments, not the pro circuit. There are people who will cheat over a $500 1st place check. Or simply for bragging rights if no money is involved.

I don't think there's a wet spot left for those guys to fish in.  Pull their licenses for life and make sure they can't register a boat.  They were lucky to get out of there with their hides based on the crowd's reactions.

If that's not enough, think about how they have to explain this to their families.  Momma ain't gonna like it.

Nothing new, not sure if OH has strict laws for fishing comp cheating.
These won a few more in the last few weeks, hmmm, makes you wonder.

I bet the tournament observer was IN it too, he was on the boat with them.

I think every tournament needs to xray/ultra sono the fish  :cf

One report mentioned that the tournament had observers in the competitors boats, including the cheater.

Correction: the last tourney they were in had observers, hmm, they won their last 3 or 4 tournaments, probably cheated on all of them.

If it's a kill tournament like that one all they need is a sharp filet knife-as is all that official had was a dull pocket knife kinds sad when you think about it the organisation is just asking to be ripped off.

Actually kinda shocking as well as depressing. Such a small gain in this case.
I have people around me all the time who are very quick with a lie and and good at it. They seem to enjoy it—-you could ask 'em "what time is it?" And they'll lie just to be getting over on you, with no apparent motive. Doesn't seem to bother them at all... then I see little kids that don't have any concept of dishonesty. Wonder what age range it usually starts...
Kids have a strong concept of fairness. Watch/listen to 'em playing sports games, their play has to stop every 30 seconds. A bit of arguing, then a
"Do over"!.  When do they lose that? How many insults to their sense of right and wrong as the grow-up, before the eventually give-up and join the weak-#### cheaters...?

The sickening part is that there are fishing tournaments at all; much less a professional fisherman circuit.  They've forgotten the reason humans go fishing.

Read an interesting piece on this yesterday. The gist of it was that people do stuff like this all the time, and that this only became national news because of the viral video clip that accompanied the story.
Fishing competitions IMO should be limited to making fun of your friends when you catch bigger fish than them.

Fished one walleye tournament 30 years or so ago. Was thinking about joining their association. Didn't care for the atmosphere, and really didn't like the cliqueish environment. Never joined the association and never fished another tournament. It's sure not anything I want to be a part of.

I was also into entering every fishing tournament on this side of Baja, but found out there are many "under the table" "under-water" agreements between some "famous" fishermen and the organization of the tournaments plus the "cheaters", so, I opted to stop entering to tournaments and enjoy fishing for what it is, a moment to enjoy the nature, to enjoy alone in the wild or with your friends and maybe, just maybe bring a meat to the table.
