Ryobi / Re: Ryobi SL5 Graphite Spinnin...

Yes.

The SX-5 has your typical combination of soft and metal drag washers, sitting in the spool with a funky tension spring placed directly on top.

Metal washers are nice and flat, and upgrading the soft ones to carbon fiber made a huge difference.

Are there serviceable drag washers on this model? I'm looking at my brother's old Ryobi Catcher 1mn and can't see any way at first glance to remove them. Wondering if that is a Ryobi thing.

I know my Shakes 2210 II has the same ball bearing symbol embossed on the side cover
& metallic green color.

They're Shakespeares from the mid '70s - early '80s made in Japan by Omori.

That Dakota dirt is tough stuff... usually shale. Went to Oahe a few times and got it on my boat, our tackle boxes, etc. That crap wouldn't even wear off. Had to scrub it with Comet and a brush to get rid of it. The cleaning process dulled the finish on a couple of items.

Gregg my 1st socket came from
K-mart too,in a metal case back then.

Back in the 60s-70s ours had a deli in the front of the store encircled with  Brach's candy  bins proudly displayed & they had canned ham samiches & left the gel on.I would hit it, then pick out a comic book, life was good...

General Spinning Reel Questions / Re: KMART 5005 Look Inside

I have a Kmart 2500 Ultraspin probably from the late 70's, early 80's.

It's a gem of a reel and seems to share some resemblance to Daiwa.

Good job bringing that one back to duty-ready. Curious what the gear ratio is?

It looks to be of the  "Shakes" lineage in my opinion.

Yeah. That's tough looking reel with an elaborate gear system. Any one know who made these for Kmart?
I really liked that store. My surprisingly durable socket set came from there 40+ years ago, complete with a metal carrying box. We lost Kmart about 7 years ago here.
