Met a couple of friends in San Diego last week and we drove 200 miles south to San Quintin Baja.
The storm was bearing down on the Pacific coast so we knew it would be iffy.
We got out early Thursday and got to "the 240", an underwater volcanic peak, early.
The bite was all out. Limits by 11:30. We went in at 12:30 and the wind picked up and closed us out fo the next few days. Can't wait to do it again.
I remember catching each fish but at the front of my mind is the big one that got away. My drag was buttoned almost down on an HXJ Raptor with a 60# fluoro leader. None of the 15-20#ers took any line out at all. The big one started ripping off line and I was slow (paralyzed) to move the lever towards full and...pop!

that sounds just like fishing in Baja, I have had those experiences too
congrats on that great fishing day
Thanks, everybody! I wanted to mention that the video Cor posted of YT chasing surface iron from the rocks really helped (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=27297.msg313581#msg313581).
The speed of the retrieve and the persistence of the YT chasing the lure helped me keep reeling fast from the bottom sometimes getting hit 3 times before a hookup.
Thanks, Cor!
Steve
a great morning!

Yes Steve it was an eye opener. I did some further research on the subject. I read that if you see the fish trailing the lure, reel faster. The trailing fish will register the lure as panicking and trying to get away, so it would trigger a strike. It seems counter intuitive but I have to bow to the experience fishermen. Dominick
It looks good Steve nice to see your ok. Thats the way to enjoy retirement.
Mike
Great fishin' Steve!
