A little while back I contacted Dwight and told him that I needed to have one of his rods. I gave him a general idea of what I was looking for and I also told him not to contact me, it was in his hands.
Dwight, I don't know what to say, this rod is way more than i ever imagined.
The craftsmanship is perfect, I do not see a mark or misalignment anywhere.
My daughter was asking me questions about it, as I was pulling it from the package and she sa!1.id that i wasn't even listening ;D.
I know how much work and special touches you've put into this masterpiece, I'm impressed!
Thank you so much my friend... I love it!
Sal
Nice!!!!
Beautiful beyond words...
Best,
Fred
Wow! I wish my postman would deliver surprises like that :)
Sal
I am very happy that it meets your expectations and I was elated that you asked me to build you one. You are such a great craftsman it gave me a little worry to get it just right for the master. My priority is "Built for Battle" and then I worry about the cosmetics and try to dress them nicely. The Seeker Hercules rods are very strong so don't be afraid to load it up on some nice fish.
Now take some time from the bricks and mortar and go use it. ;D
Dwight
NICE STICK!! ;D I like the color Italian (Bella Italia)
Newell Nut strikes again ... ;D
Sal, enjoy your rod 8)
Wow What a nice rod Dwight does some nice work. now take a day away from the bricks and motor and try it out Doug
The Italian flag really looks cool. Congratulations Sal. The best to you also Dwight, you do nice work. I have say I like the signature shark tooth in all your rods. Dominick
Nice work Dwight!
That rod really turned out nice.
Good clean crisp lines, on a solid blank, with what appear to be quality components. I am sure Sal will make good use of this one.
Thanks Guys, I told Sal that every time that I went into the garage to check on it I kept thinking of pizza so when I finished it Sunday afternoon I asked Elli to order up a pizza and celebrated appropriately with a bottle of merlot. ;D
fantastic rod for a fantastic fellow, built by a fantastic friend, great work dwight, i like those guides and of course sal's colors, reely nice, sal enjoy your new rod, i'm sure you have a tank to put on it. again, real nice job dwight.
Now that is a rod built to last a lifetime..!!
That's friggin' awesome. Nice job Dwight and Sal most certainly is a deserving recipient.
Beautiful functionality, I know you built it to put the hurting on the fish and not on Sal. Post up some fish pics when you can!
Mac
Great work Dwight. I bet Sal is still looking at it. Awesome build for a Awesome Guy. ;D
VERY nice :o :o
Beautiful! Which reel are you thinking of mounting to it? I know you've had a green thing lately, they would pair up nicely.
Dwight makes some amazing rods! Now we have to see some pics of what you catch with that bad boy!
Nice.. excellent work , congrats ro both of you, the builder and the owner.
Sal if you ever feel like selling it I can use that rod with pride too, it has the same colors of my flag.
Or I can order one to Dwight in a near future as well.

No, this rod would never go up for sale ;).
I'm glad you guys enjoyed it, maybe if we share a boat one day, I'll make you use it...NOT! ;D
That is a beautiful combo Sal. Who wouldn't be proud of that. 8)
nice reel you have there, did you painted the side plates where they aluminuim or bakelite?
That is one cool looking reel. Great match up. The rest of the collection is quite impressive as well.
First off....I vote this Rod/Reel combo of the year...fantastic in every way. I'm blown away, I just re-read some of that reel build too, too cool.
Second, love your collection corner. I see quite a few goodies in there, and some very special pieces as well. Maybe sometime I'll stop by with a 6 pack of Peroni as an entrance fee to take a peek ;)
Sal and Dwight, great work on this outfit!
Sal, whats the stick hanging above with the Mildrum's on it?

John, its a Fenwick 670 130 class, same as the rod on the movie Jaws ;D.
I'm not sure you've seen these, I have a couple more:

Cool rods! I love the older Fenwick big game rods. Do you have any 80 class?

Yes John.
From the left, 1 to 4 are Penn, 5 & 6 are 50 class, 7 & 8 are130 class, 9 & 10 are 80 class and 11 is 100 class.
Sal, that is too cool, those guides are awesome. Interesting how the go on the side of the blank rather than on top of it. Thanks for sharing the picture.

Huh, on the side ???
Sal, those are awesome!!! I have a Harnell 130 that I've been in the process of rewrapping for about 7 years that has the Mildrums; I was thinking of going Aftco but will probably keep the Mildrum's on it. it was in rough shape or I'd have left it alone, but I think I paid $75 for it so can't go wrong. If you recall a couple weeks back I asked you about the Fenwick 80 reel seat. Mine looks like a weird hybrid of #6 and #7: Bigfoot Aftco's but with the EVA butt and aluminum Fenwick seat. I'm gonna try to figure out how to post pics this weekend. I love the old Fenwick stuff but it's pretty rare down here; I grab it when I see it. Also have several of the original Senator rods; good parking spots for 113's.

On the big Fenwick's it looks like the guides actually attach on the side of the blanks...interesting.
Edit: After seeing Thorhammers post I looked up the Mildrum roller guides pretty darn cool.
Dan, the Mildrums are unique in this design AFAIK. Certainly not a Wintrop but the fit and finish for the period is pretty good; the Harnell had seen plenty of use but the Mildrums dont have a spec of corrosion.
