Title: Squidder Conundrum
Post by: Maxed Out on December 22, 2021, 12:22:48 AM
Here we go again. Another oddball Penn fell outta the sky and hit me in the head.

This one should not exist, but here it is. A 100% non numbered squidder 140 with a metal spool. Yes, the spool is non numbered and has the typical small diameter 1940's arbor. I'm pointing this out because the squidder had only plastic spool up thru 1953. The "metal spool" 140M was introduced in 1954-55 catalog 18. So how did this late 40's squidder have a non numbered (pre-1950) spool ??

The spool only fits a squidder, so it couldn't have come from a different model. Perhaps a surfmaster spool with a squidder shaft. Spool looks factory made and reel itself appears to have seen very little use, and all screwheads are unmolested. This is the fun part of being a closet collector. Finding a few oddballs along the way !!

Interesting. Do those spools(plastic and metal) come apart?
In that #16 catalog(1951)I posted they stated "with Syncro spool", what's that mean?
