ive tried various handles and was never satisfied
cant stand the paddle ones.
china ran out,dawn had none,
months of trying and then (dawn you little beauty)
tracked some down
$45 del; to australia for the pair.
maybe a weighted blank and 1 knob could be the go
15/64 drill bit,perfect fit,no bearings in these,not needed
6kg pre-test mono line will be loaded on the reel.
got rid of the cork washer and replaced with 3 cfwashers.
i have 6/7 lb max drag, ill fish 3/4lb at strike.
im fishing again on monday so will give it a whirl
with the dble knobs.weather permitting.
thanks alto mare for posting pic.
cheers

Post by: wallacewt on February 28, 2013, 11:45:41 AM
the knobs are better for me with
the arthritic hands,
i dunno about dawn being happy but i am.
ive got 1/2 dozen baitcaster  reels to do
and a couple of eggbeaters.
1-2-3-4-6kg line cast for tournements.
ill experiment with 1 and 2 knobs for best option.
its all mono line
ill stick with the heavy 6kg on monday
until i get it sorted
cheers

Can´t remember the price, but there are several kind of handles out there, bought them on ebay.

try to Google: power knob; fishing reel knob, and so on, there are also EVA versions.

decided against duel knobs
so i weighed a single knob(19gm)
and made a counter weight
loaded reel with 6kg big game
the orginal cork washer was 2.93 thick.(glued in)
also took the 3c/f loose washers out.
glued in c/f washer-plastic-plastic-c/f(thickness 2.93)
there are no metal washers, now or before.
new c/f stack then the pressure plate.
i have more drag pressure than i need and its smooth as.
and good free spool
reel came with spare spool so
i did the same but loaded it with 4kg line
cheers

thanks irish,ken-d
ill stick with dawn because of the price&service.
$70/$45  sing/dawn
ken-d
same again with the c/f handle
i can make the c/f blank for $7 + dawns knob $22.50= $29.50
compared to $125.
x that by 7 reels and maybe more it
starts to get fair dinkum.
cheers

What size were the dhu fish?

That is one interesting reel you got there Wallace.
Title: Re: Mini handle 6600c 3ld
Post by: wallacewt on March 07, 2013, 05:53:25 AM
2x 8lb dhu fish
2 breaksea cod(black ####)
hooked the biggest dhu ive ever tangled with
and lost him after a solid 10minutes
i couldnt understand it
30lb braid,andros,penn power pro leader.
anyhow when i wound in and inspected
the line, bimini was intact, nil wrong there,
the 13 turn bristol knot had slipped through the bimini.
penn power pro is slippery, rovex braid is slippery,
greased the knot with halco catch scent(slippery)
i just slipped up myself. damn it. ???
(huckfinn quote) find the problem, fix it make sure it doesnt happen again (so true it hurts)

Looks cool, i just took one of the knobs of my 5501 and installed it on my Toro, so i have  2 x single handle, i agree with wallace this is better. :D

thank you alto mare for pics
there are 3 different knobs here.
2 black ones(smooth drag)45 mm-36mm
others i bought in oz. 30mm.
45mm has ball bearing
36 mm no bearing but has a flange
30mm no bearing,no flange on knob shaft
i added a ss washer.
goes on shaft knob between handle blank/knob
i left 1paddle handle on some of the reels to act as counter weights.
made a counter weight on another
another had c/weight
conclusion- dont think it matters one bit
dont matter what knob you use it will be better than
the paddle knobs.
just get a size that suits you.
reels are daiwa-abu-shimano
2kg-3kg- 4kg- 6k-8kg mono pretest
rods been modified to suit me,
mostly from broken ally beach chairs
cheers

Oh no! I wish I had never opened this thread!!! They look so good. I had honestly never given much though to replacing the knobs on my reel handles (I say this after ordering 4 or 5 new handles from Hookless in the last month or so). And so far Smooth drags has been great to order my drag washers from so I may just find myself calling and ordering from them again this week to upgrade some handle knobs.
To the origional poster, the new knobs look great on your reels. Thanks for posting this.

Didn't wanna start a new topic so hopes its okay i post here :)

Installed one of the blue knobs on my toro 51, and a longer handle blank on my 7001
The 7001i us i made "fully manual" so it wan't engage during cast, and i removed the anodizing from the blue handles.

I was pretty sure it was just plain aluminium but tried with one of them first, to make sure i didn't  ruin them both.

I used Caustic soda(?) in water to remove it, and it was very very effective :P

Just received a EVA knob its realy nice and only weights 11gram, iv'e had problems with my power handle reengage during cast, but this works great, and no matter what i do it only engage the reel when i turn the handle myself :)

Now i just need to make a proper counter weight instead of the coins :P

re-engage,  i haven,t had that happen to me yet.
for your counter weight you might like to try
a lead sinker, paint, and epoxy.(saltydog style, lures site)

At least with that reel, you'll never be poor.  There is an Asian thing that if you give a purse or wallet, you should never give it empty signifying that you are poor.  We always include some money, even a penny so that you are never poor and your wallet or purse will be filled with money.

I think the coins look awesome! Maybe change the nut to a nice little capped one. Doesn't get any more ghetto than that! :)
