Getting ready to go through some 349s I have and would like to know what is available in drag washers. Is there a decent upgrade to the stock washers ? Thanks in advance for your help
I had several sets gathering dust but they are gone now. I need to have more cut.
I don't have anything right now.
Dawn
Dawn,
Do you have any washer and drag kits available for a 349H? I have a pretty nice one that I'd like to spruce up and give to my boy for doing good in school this year.

I have metal washers for the 349 but not the 349H. I also have a few gears and yokes to convert from 349H to 349 and 349 to 349H.
Keta,
What is the most foolproof way to determine a 349 vs. 349H?
The reel I have is red, has one lever, says 349 on the plate...and the drag washers/drags are approximately 3/16"-1/4" larger in diameter than the drag washers for a 113H.
The reel is in pretty amazing shape, having spent most of its life in a rubbermaid box.

That's a 349H. A 349HC has double levers. The 349 has smaller diameter drags & gears than the H or HC. Rudy
Thanks for the confirmation...now to find or make the metal drag washers...😀

There is information on how to use 113H drags in a 349H & HC somewhere on the forum. You will need to do a little searching.
Thanks for the tip...my problem is everytime I search I find other cool things to do that cost me dearly...😂😂😂
This place is addicting 🤣

I do think I have one of Dawn's kits. Yep I sure do. I'll get in the mail tomorrow. I have your address. The kit has everything. The metal washers and the Carbontex washers.

Keith,
Many thanks for taking the time to check your goodie drawers! I'll make sure to have my boy help me put them in!

Does anyone know where I can get the metal washers cut. I would like to make some kits available.
Mike
I will donate my drawings.

Hi Mike,
If Dawan does not want to make them, my laser cutter can cut them, but the min. set up cost would be around $200 (I think) and I don't know how many parts I could get from the initial set-up cost. If I get the drawings, I could send it to my laser cutter and get a quote for how many washers you would like to make of each (with some spares). If I can get a main gear and gear sleeve so that they can adjust the cut to it fits perfect with some tolerance, that would help so that there's no rework that needs to be done.

I can supply the gear and materials. I have original washers as a template. We have to decide on thickness and the type of materials. Also should we make the fiber washers at the same time?

It's finally on the way.. :D
Around .030"-.040", I will measure a 349 washer.
I took apart a reel to measure the thickness. The metal washers are .048 which is18 gage. The carbon washers are .040 thick. A total of 5 washers each.

Has anyone heard from Keith (handi2) lately? I know he was not feeling well and I've tried reaching out to him through PM, but have not gotten any response.

I chatted with Keith about 2 1/2 weeks ago. He did mention he was moving to his new house in a month, so I'm guessing he's busy packing stuff for the move

Keith, here is the finished product, and thanks for your support in getting this done.
Gabe did well in a tough year at school, and he just helped me rebuild this with the drag kit you supplied (and some additional goodies from Cortez Customs).
I need to cobble together something for my 349H. Any thin drag washers from anyone following this thread?
Hoyt
Hi
FYI :fish
I came up with the idea of using the 349's for school bluefin fishing (hopefully not hooking a giant ;) )
Local tackle shop predicts the stock drags will burn up,, that's my guess also...
last winter
I located and bought a sheet of 2.5mm thick carbon fiber online, drew a CAD file of the washers and had about 18 cut with a water jet... the three-stack set is almost identical in thickness to the OEM drags..
they cost me a little more than 10 buck a washer, heck of a lot less than new reels, plus I've owned these reels for 50 yrs and still use a couple every so often,,,
I call this poor mans tuna rods... :-) (entry level ? )
Said to say I was unable to test them out this season,, ( it's called a skunk >:( )
thought you folks might find this interesting...
