Title: Carbon fibre handle grips
Post by: hafnor on June 21, 2016, 06:46:53 PM
Hi Jon. I have not been here for a while, and never seen your work. I just looked through some now and it looks stunning :)

Do you have any experience from carbon fibre handle grips? I have always been dreaming of a spiral wrapped jig rod with bare carbon fiber look. I saw some CF grips that looks stunning. I have seen some fly fishermen using it. They say the grip is incredible (better than EVA).

I have also seen aiwa make some cf framed casting guides.... If only Fuji made some for conv. rods....

Anyways- Just wondering what your opinion was.

Very cool grips and comfortable but very labor intensive.  Here's a video that outlines the process (not the best quality unfortunately).

I got my hands on a set of 80 class straight butts built out of carbon fiber recently.  Sweet butts.. super l8ght and they seem stiff, and strong.  Not sure how the gimbal and ferrule will hold up to torsional forces over time, but I would love to try them out.
