Title: Screaming lexa ?
Post by: Zinox on August 22, 2014, 08:52:51 AM
So i just got a lexa 300, and it screams like i don't know what when i'm casting.
I googled the problem, and it seems to be quite common, but i can't find anywhere they describe how to fix it, other then some say it's just a cheap bushing that needs to be replaced.

I bought it online, in an other country so sending it back would cost 35usd or more, so would be a lot easier if i could jut replace a small thing if that is what it takes.

Hi Zinox,

I am pretty sure that the problem you describe would be the spool bearings being dry. A common problem with many low profile baitcasters.
Is the reel still OK with casting distance ?

Ideally you should remove the bearings and clean them of all oil and debris, then apply a drop of a quality oil.

Apply only a tiny drop of oil to the bearing under the cast control knob, and the one on the palming side, and I am sure that this should be sorted.

Yes it cast really well, and caught a really nice pike on it, love the reel just can't stand the noise :P

Sounds like a pretty easy job, ill try this weekend, and to some test casting in the garden, thanks for the input,

If you are throwing big baits for pike/muskie and such no reason why you can't grease those bearings to quiet them. With heavy lures the grease will make no difference in distance to worry about.

The shields will have to be removed to properly grease them.

Or flush with solvent and use one of the Boss's bearing packers (the shields can stay in - althogh sometimes they pop out under the pressure)  :)

Thanks for the input guys, i contacted the seller, to here how the return system works, if i have to pay shipping both ways, i'll keep it and try to fix it, maybe replace the bearings. If packing them with heavier grease dosen't work.

I'll let you know if i find a way to fix it.
