When grinding titanium the sparks will be white.  not even yellowish.....seems like titanium is about 2/3 to 3/4 the weight of steel.  very corrosion resistant....

I went through my inventory and I don't have any inserts left.
They are all in my reels. As far as premature failure, I haven't seen any myself.
However, They will wear out after many years of service.

thank you for your response

Quote from: oldmanjoe on Today at 04:44:35 AMI am not trying to be negative , the only thing I see positive is the second dog .

A second ring gear to sandwich the rotor pinion , is only going to mask a worn ball bearing  and or the Oscillation slide and it`s shim .   Am I missing something ?
My thinking is by surrounding the pinion by two gears 180° from each other, the axle has no option but to fall in line under heavy load.  One fail point for this reel's past has been axle deflection  under heavy loads (tarpon from piers).  I cannot attest to these since i have only used this reel for 8 years and have never landed anything over 20lbs..  It was a solution for a problem that was mostly based on hearsay.  But it definitely eliminates a potential weak point

I can visualize a scenario where some gear wear could actually create some binding and actually lock things up.
I can see with any reel with gear wear that binding could become an issue.  Using factory gear sets, that are basically good as new is any reels best bet. The ~3/8" left on the main drive shaft for the supplementary side is intentionally left to prevent binding. We can visualize anything, if it actualizes is another story

This little peacock bass was smaller than the lure! The babies run in large schools and are extremely agressive!

Been a long time, but have I been to Belize a few times. Really enjoyed it.

The sportfishing business is mostly built around catch and release guided fishing on the flats for bonefish, tarpon, permit, and occasional snook, and most of this is on the fly. I fished this stuff, mostly flats on the southern coast and islands, and a little bit up north around Ambegris.    There are some famous (in fly fishing circles) families of guides that specialize in permit on the fly in the southern part of Belize.

For catch and keep fishing, there is open water trolling out past the reefs, and includes the usual bluewater suspects. The catching reputation was OK, but not too spectacular.  Belize is not a bluewater fishing destination. They also have "reef" fishing trips that fish the closer in shallow waters for barracuda, jacks, snappers, grouper, etc., and these are more economical, and can probably find fish year round. Reef trips were targeted more for the casual fishermen and let customers keep fish. No firsthand experience here with either.

Winter is colder water season.  late spring to to fall is when most of the sportfishing action happens in Belize. The further south you went, the better the fishing tended to be.

Post a report if you end up fishing!
